RE: BMW to buy De Tomaso?
Discussion
A mid-engined supercar powered by a (Brabham-a-like) 600bhp version of the M V10 is the car BMW should always have built with a junior version powered by a M V8.
Don't know how they let Audi get away with it for so long.
If it's got De Tomaso on the nose, I won't be picky. It's a great marque.

Not De Tomaso but Pantera must be a good brand.
BMW M1 replacement at last maybe, better than the latest fat ugly coupes that BMW are making.
Zagato is now within CPP isn't it and planning a new platform for an upmarket Aston Martin brand surely? BMW would be better off buying Aston Martin as their Middle East backers are looking for a safe profit right now aren't they?
Has anyone any news on Spyker & CPP? All these minor top trumps are fascinating and is anyone rescuing Gumpert?

So it'll sound crap
I can see why you're concerned, but not necessarily, as the current turbo AMG Mercs demonstrate. All in a perfect world, of course.

Audi's got Lambo and Ducati. BMW has got its own bikes, and the Rolls brand, plus the Mini. Fiat has Maserati and Ferrari. Now let's see, although the price of de Tomaso ought to be lower, I would go for Aston Martin instead. That would look like a nice stable. And BMW could return Aston's straight six DB series.

This is exactly what I thought, update the v10 with a carbon intake system a la csl and capacityDon't know how they let Audi get away with it for so long.

increase like dinan stroker, titanium exhaust system in a modern interpretation of the Pantera.
Couple this to the new dct box on the m5.
I would sell ALL my organs for that. Sell price around £160,000ish?

With any luck they will use De Tomaso to produce luxary versions of some of their existing platforms. A plush interior on a 550i platform with italian external styling and a lazy BMW v8 would be sublime. Forget M car performance stats, build a slightly smaller, more practical Quattroporte rivaling car with a low reving engine, auto box, big boot, BMW reliability and leather /wood interior!
