I really can't see De Tomaso being the best brand to 'do a Lambo' for BMW.
Which begs the question what would be a better brand for a BMW supercar? Can only thinkg of Lotus but there must be some other iconic sports car brands out there.
Yep, but I think you'd be starting from scratch with most of them. Only Lotus is a going concern and still sold/seen on the road and has enough Kudos to be seen as a competitor to the established brand. TBH the more I think about Lotus the more it makes sense for someone like BMW.

If BMW want to build yet another stty profiteering biased car (im not calling it super because it wont even be close) why doesnt BMW f*****g build it instead of ruining DeTomaso to trade substandard cars under the meaningfull (until BMW f**k it up that is) DeThomaso name?
They will ruin the brand in the same way BMW, VWAG and FIAT have ruined every brand theyve aquired and then actively poncified in the name of profits?

DeTomaso is a mans car for real men, BMW's are poncified repmobiles for fags.
IT DOESNT FIT SO DONT RUIN IT TO MAKE IT FIT

BMW couldnt even muster a billionth of the passion the name DeTomaso invokes.

So what putting BMW to one side for a moment what would a modern day Pantera look like? What kind of car should it be, what engine etc?

Shame its not Lotus...

I could imagine BMW engines and *cough* attention to detail *cough* wiht Lotus chassis design working rather well. And it would be a big two fingers to Lambo and Ferrari.

Ford V8. Possibly supercharged. Probably both actually, with the supercharged version being the GTS.

Looks, a modern ish version of the old one. Look at what Lambo did with the "new" 2006 Miura concept.

Don't see a problem with this, always thought the original M1 looked a lot like an updated Pantera:

Would be good to see the name revived with some decent offerings, a reworked 6 Series would make an interesting Longchamps as well.

They may as well buy the old Monteverdi name as well for Maserati-style cars.

Yes, it's really just buying a brand so seems to make sense alongside Mini and BMW. It's a brand which has never been ruined.

I'll bet it's many tens/hundreds of millions cheaper than looking at Lotus as well.

Nor can I, however I'd be fascinated to see what they come up with if they're thinking that they can.

BMW did ok with the MINI brand from a product and financial perspective afterall.
Was there not an Innocenti Mini De Tomaso?

It all makes sense now...

Does it matter if DT doesn't exist any more? if BMW can start doing a modern version of this

then I'm down with it

Really!!! BMW do things completely differently to VW... VW have a plan with all their brands to cover every niche and overtake Toyota and GM to be the biggest. BMW is the biggest luxury car brand in the world, outselling both Mercedes and Audi.
BMW don't need to catch is VW, they just need to keep being good at what they do and continue to innovate.
Cue BMW's aren't that special, Audi are better built, Mercedes or better than both. Who knows, does it really matter... We pays our money and make our choice, for all the various reasons, sometimes not actually buying what we'd really like because of financial constraints. I'd love an M3 but much more palatable run cost puts my butt in an Audi TTS... Lovely car, great build, quality but lacking emotion, that connection, a soul. To some it doesn't matter, to others it does. These and other things make people decide on a BMW, Audi, Merc, Ford, Alfa or whatever.
As long as BMW continue to make great cars, sold in enough numbers they will be fine.
