I'm sorry, but don't think it'll redefine anything, let alone design. It's a mess of unnecessary detailing without a general line other than bling. And most of all, it is nowhere near F1's purposeful looks.
I agree. It just looks like they've copied off Pagani and Koenigsegg with the bling design.

I was really looking forward to this car too, was hoping it would be like the MP4-12C but turned up to 12. Nice, simplistic looking body work with function over form, and plenty more power.

Also the mirrors are black in 'reality', but in the reflection they are orange. A little bit more sleep for the graphic designer tonight I think smile

Most of the styling probably has an aero purpose.
I think this is the problem with modern supercars - they're converging on the "correct" shape, so they all look the same. The only thing the manufacturers really have to play with is surface detailing.

I seriously hope these pictures are somehow warping the car in some way, that profile shot is even worse than an Audi R8, which I have long held to be the ugliest "supercar" on the market.

Everybody hates the MP4, but I love it. The side profile on that has almost exactly the same proportions as a Diablo, effing lovely IMO.

Seems to me they based the styling purely on everybody's complaints that the 12c was too boring

I guess I'll getmecoat
Well it’s lucky that that is just your opinion, as the sales figures would seem to refute your objections. The R8 is one of the best selling cars in its class and the MP4 has sold well over 1000 cars is just over a year and is ahead of its sales targets

It's a McLaren, if it's not function over form I'll eat my shoes.

The front looks a bit Downs Syndrome to me. Not a PC term, I know, but I can't think of any other way to put it.
What a pathetic and incredibly unintelligent thing to say grumpy

I have no problem with the MP4, I love it. I just don't like the R8, didn't mean to offend beer

it will have a manual gearbox?
it will have a naturally aspirated engine?
it will have a central driving position?
it will have zero driving aids?

if not, it will not be the ultimate drivers car in my book

Really like the look of that especially the view from behind. The side view alright I have to say the cockpit/cab looks a bit far forward aand the back a bit long. Other than that I'll take one.

These pictures do not do the car justice,in the flesh it is low and wide and sleek.Take the side view and imagine what the front and back will look like. The cameraman has used a lens to make it look animated and dumpy, why i dont know!! Its just not a good representation of how it looks at all.!!

Looks like they've put a lot of effort into that glorious rear end. I hereby christen thee P1ppa...

I suspect most people will only see the rear end rapidly vanishing anyway

They've integrated the McLaren logo into the front lamps. Nice touch.
Same as the 12C, no?

I like the back, especially how the haunches rise up... the front is a it 50/50... but the side looks odd - the glass house is too tall and too far forwards. Not exactly a pleasing look.

As others have said, seems to be a bit blingy, but until we see the final car and understand if there's a "form follows function" reason for the odd look, possibly a bit too early to draw conclusions.

Interesting that the article says it'll be a design study that's shown next week, suggests this isn't the final look.

Such a shame because the subtle looks of the MP4-12C were the best thing about it for me.

Not for me I'm afraid- looks like a Mazda concept from a few years ago, and fissile overstyled.
