What's the deal with who owns aston these days? Are they totally independant?

It would appear there's no money to reinvest in building any successors to the current line up which is a shame.

I hate to say it but it would appear they need a 4x4 platform for a premium SUV to bring some coin in, but if they have no other manufacturer they can borrow the platform from I guess they can't afford to develope one themselves?
Er, they've just launched a completely new model, the Vanquish.

The front end has been made less aggressive over the last few years, which in my opinion, is a shame.
AM's for me are brutish, 'statement' cars, with a dash of elegance. I just hope they don't get more feminine over time.

Still looks good though to be honest, I'd be quite happy with the original DB9 pre-every-facelift.

There is certainly a timelessness in the simplicity of the original design and looks everybit as good as the facelifted models.

Im struggling to spot the differance between the Virage and the 'facelift' DB9 aside from the badge at the back! wink

As someone already said I think AM are taking the pi55!

Why the negative comments on here? Who wouldn't want this beauty on their drive? The design is cohesive and makes any Ferrari 2+2 look ugly. You don't realise the beauty in this design until seeing it in the flesh. What's wrong with evolution?-nothing in my view, the car is elegant, purposeful and desirable and BRITISH thank god. Will all the whingers please go and look at their comments, and be grateful that we still have Aston Martin.

Sorry, still want!!!

Volante still first on the lottery list, well you wouldn't want to pull up at the Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mclaren and Range Rover showrooms in any old nail would you?

It does look fantastic from that from 1/4 shot, the wheels work very well infact i'd say it's a superb facelift.

Modernises from the old shape above whilst staying a class above it's competition. Very good stuff.

The range needs a revamp of course. A facelifted V12V would really have me listening. I do love Astons though.

I love Astons but this is getting a bit silly. They take the Virage out of production and now the 'new' DB9 looks just like the Virage confused

Best wheels, best design pre-agressive bodykits, simply and pretty.
Agreed.

I've never heard anyone describe this as looking like a kit car, I thought PH was all about subtlety and keeping things clean, not fancy bodykits and bling wheels (the only real discernible changes on the new car).

Sad to see that a manual gearbox won't be an option though, a fair few people liked the manual DB9 including me.

I just don't understand why they killed the Virage and kept the DB9, the Virage was the best driving of the range. And in killing it off after only just over 12 months what effect will it have on residuals?!

I love AM but the chopping and changing is indicative of one thing, they are in desperate need of a cash injection and fast.

Regards,

My CC.

Depends what you enjoy, but for me the V12V is a much more involving drive. For a long trip across Eruope, the Virage would be better, but for Alpine passes outside winter, I'd take the V12V.

I couldn't agree more, it was sublime but is becoming "fussy"

It's a Virage to the casual observer. They should have dropped the DB9 name altogether and been left with:

Vantage
Virage
Vanquish

Nobody looking for a DB9 would be particularly put off if all they had was a Virage to choose from. I had one for a week recently, lovely car.
But depending on what they did with pricing they would have either:

(1) Raised the price of the DB9 to the Virage levels (+£40k?), which would have priced it out of reach of many DB9 customers.

(2) Adopted the original DB9 price, making the Virage appear that it has had its price slashed (people are naturally suspicious of big price drops - "what content has been left out to acieve that?").

I don't think either option would be good from a marketing persective.

Just imagine for a minute that you haven't seen any Aston Martins before, and then just take in the sheer beauty of this car:

It really is utterly stunning. Anyone who says these cars are 'boring' just because they haven't changed in a while needs to check their brain. This car is beautiful.

It's virtually perfect looking.

Aston have nailed it...again.

It looks better with a proper roof imo, the Volantes don't do much for me.

Yes lovely in the 90's .
Hardly cutting edge.

Sure it'll be a classic they almost all will be (x DB7).

Even 007 has moved on.

Is it Lazyness, Cost or Fear of getting it wrong.

This is how Bristol Cars ENDED ....
I don't give a monkey's scrotum about 'cutting edge' - I'm talking about beauty.

Aston owners don't want a car that shouts 'LOOK AT ME! I'M AERODYNAMIC AND OH SO MODERN!!!!'
