During a lunch break I found a quiet back street just outside the centre of Camrbridge. Had my lunch and went to drive away and noticed I had a flat (only fast puncture I've ever had!)

Went to get the spare out and noticed it was also flat...my bad.

Old lady driving past stops to ask if I was ok, told her my situation expecting an 'oh dear, I hope you get it fixed soon!' but no. She tells me to put my wheel in the boot and she'll drive me to the local tyre place up the road. Turns out her son was the manager who replaced both tyres for the price of one and got one of his bods to drive me back to my car...even helped me fit the wheel. Top old dear, top chap x2!

Brought some flowers round her son to pass on to his mum. Lovely people and couldnt stop thanking me for the flowers...mental (in a good way)

Both times in my then rarely-used DC2 Type-R, both times battery issues due to the lack of use.

First time, battery had a bad cell, but I jump started it and then planned to drive it to where I was getting a new battery off the back of the alternator.

Approaching a roundabout, I let the revs drop too far and it died. Turning ignition on didn't even get me any dash lights. bks.

Hop out, start pushing it, aiming to get across the roundabout and into the petrol station. 1,100kg car so it isn't a big deal, but getting across the roundabout would be! Waving people approaching me to slow down and go round, and instead they all cut me up, overtake and then brake forcing me to leap into the car in a panic to stab the brakes. Go to use the horn, oh yea, no battery.

Whilst pushing, from behind I hear a weird metallic clatter and then suddenly the car gets lighter.

Old boy on his push bike ditched it right in the middle of the road, and then helped me push into the petrol station. He ditched the bike in the road on purpose, as it flumoxed the cars following, allowing us some breathing room.

After getting into the petrol station, he wished me well and dashed off. Didn't even get chance to offer him a pint.

Second time about a year later, another chap just appeared out of nowhere with a CRV and some jump leads and got me going, when he saw me pushing my car off the pumps due to another dead battery.

It's little things like that which really restore your faith in humanity. smile

Controversially I'm going with the British Motoring Public.

5:20am this morning joining the M23 from the A23 on my way to Gatwick. Taxi driver brakes HARD to avoid a random chap walking down the carriageway.

Occurs to me I ought to ring the Police to let them know before he gets himself squished.

As I get through to them, they let me know they've already had a call and are on the way.

That's now the third time I've rung the Police regarding something on the road only to find out they're already aware and on their way in less than a year.

Oh, and kudos to the Police for ringing me back to let me know they've picked him up safely. Didn't really need to know, but nice to be thought of.

While working shifts, driving home 2am ish in a freezing November night, ran out of fuel in amongst some road works cones. Lonely country road no one else about. No can, no cash, no coat, yes I know stupid situation to get into, its a long story but anyway there I was. The first car that came along stopped, the cheerful chap asked if I was alright, and after explaining he drove me to a petrol station, 5 miles further down the road, bought a can and 2 gallons of fuel, then drove me back to my car and waited while I got it going. He was the owner of a chinese restaurant in a nearby town, and told me to drop the money in when next over that way. I made sure I paid him in full the next day, kind of restores your faith in human nature. He could have driven straight past and laughed at my stupidity.

Pedestrians who wave or say thanks for letting them cross at pedestrian crossings...even though they dont need to.

Also to the chapette in Bedford the other day who, although she pulled out on me at a roundabout, waved, mouthed sorry AND gave me a flash of the hazards afterwards. Humility is a virtue as well patience!

So I was driving through Bognor and the local church were advertising a 50p car wash, at risk of a bit of attempted brainwashing the work snotter was in need of a wash and prepsred to hand over a few quid to bolster the church funds it seemed like a good deal.
So car parked up, given a coffee as the team set about washing the car, bit of a chat with the people and expressed my opinion that the ten commandments are a good guide to peaceful life without having to go to church, which they thought was a good outlook on life.

I was not expecting the twist in the tale which was they gave me 50p for letting them wash my car, quite a cool and thought provoking idea.
In the spirit of the basic principals of christianity I will use the money towards buying a "pending" coffee at a Costa.

Anyway Grace Church I am not religous but a great idea and top chaps the lot of them and best of all a decent job on the car.
