Isn't there a yellow pantera in one of the "Bob feels epic" adverts on the telly at the moment?
Yes, it is.

Read about these in my "supercars of the 70's" book I bought with birthday money in 1980. Basically a bunch of Autocar reprints. Great stuff though and some lovely colour plates. As I recall, the Pantera was stupifyingly hot inside (like many 70's supercars) but drove fairly well. The looks are just terrific. Although they look like Marina door handles (a la Esprit) they surely cannot be.. ?

There's also a be-winged one in the Nero video for Must Be The Feeling, which is pretty recent... early 2012. Love these cars, shame a nice one is sixty-k plus. That's Diablo money and even my fantasy garage is tight on parking spaces..

^^^That man is correct.

I always remember a film from my childhood (mid/late 90's) about car racing that had the Pantera in it, its the first time i had seen one, but forever since i can't remember the films name. I have always wanted to revisit it. Anyone know it?
Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo had a Pantera in it. What a car...what a film!

Lovely.

But desperately needs the original wheels putting back on.... Those alloys look like they've been nicked from a skyline vomit

Ah the deep dish alloys on the back, is it me or are these missing on modern cars? You can keep all the new stuff, early super cars just had a certain something for me. Love it.

"Of course, the concept of an off-the-shelf engine installed in a low-slung body is by no means by many imitators. Look at early TVRs and Marcoses, and even now marques like Ginetta and Wiesmann."

You left out Pagani, surely the most suitable comparison in this case.

I recall from the advert that the original wheels are included. The seller has had a whole collection of De Tomasos for sale recently including a '70s one that the "spotted" favours and a Mangusta that is now for sale at DK Engineering I beleive. It was £135k when being sold from the collection.

Lewis Collins drove a white Pantera in the ITV comedy A Cuckoo Waltz back in the '70s. smile
That was my first Pantera and I have loved them ever since. (In the programme, it had the reg. no. GAV 1N - his character's name iirc).

I agree, they are pretty disgusting! If you check the advert, the pics show lots of different rims. According to the ad, the vendor will let you choose from his selection (!). Why you would want anything but the originals I'm not really sure.

Like the Countach, the Pantera fell victim to the worst excesses of supercar flamboyance, with ever-larger spoilers, scoops and slats for dramatic effect. But, as with very early variants of the Countach, simplicity brings out the inherent rightness in the basic design. This Pantera shows that off (nearly) perfectly.

I might be on my own on this, but a Countach doesn't look right without its 80s adornments IMO. 5000QV for me every time... cool

There was a great show on one of the satellite channels about a guy who lives in Miami who has 4 Panteras and seems to be the world's biggest guru on them, he had one as his daily, 2 tuned ones and a low miler for shows, lived in a pretty ordinary (for Florida) house and his neighbours all drove SUVs.

Epic car, when you look at things like this you realise quite how sterile most supercars look by comparison.

Always loved the formula: Big V8 wrapped in gorgeous Italian suit. What's not to like? BMW don't seem the likely perfect partner though (unless they let loose with a stonking V8 in the new model) but far better to have the cars than not... Although thinking about it, take the entire power train from an E39 M5 (with tubi headers) pushing out 500+ brake... Mmmmmm tasty!

Why Not? Lots of car bits were shared/borrowed back then. Anyway, the Marina door handles were excellent. Shame about the rest of the car (Marina, not the Pantera)

This practice still goes on today a la Pagani Zonda with their not so special air-con unit from the Rover 2 & 4 series.
