Does seem a lot for an auto - maybe gets bundled with some other options?

Great news.

Honda are good at doing things differently so hope the turbo is implemented sympathetically to preserve the free/high revving nature of their old Type R's.

Personally I'd have thought a supercharger would have suited Honda better but am sure they have a plan.

2015 though!

Glad to see a resurrection of the Type R branding, let's hope the car retains the same 'lighter is faster' and high revving ethos!

Hopefully this will be a car more in tune with the original Integra and Accord philosophy than the EP3 Civic.

I reckon Honda will do a cracking job of making a reliable and exciting Turbo. Shame it's a long way off.

I don't think they will take the crown away from Renault, even if they are developing it for another 3 years. ANd lets not forget that we are awaiting the new RenaultSport Clio and I'd imagine the Megane will be in line for a re-fresh by then, perhaps the RenaultSport Megane 300 ??

One last point, what are all the V-TEC fanboys going to say now? TURBO POWER!

While we're not going to get the K20a motor in the Type-R over here, will the engine live on? I ask because I absolutely loved that motor in my 245bhp Ariel Atom 3 and it'd be a real shame if Ariel lost access to that motor frown

Shame about it needing to be a 1.6 turbo, I brought one of the last ever (September 2010) CTR's and the reason I brought it was because of the engine. I could have had any of the hot hatches at the time but I fell in love with the K20 engine (even the induction noise with a the standard air box is addictive). To sum up I,m due to change my car next year and i wouldn't be after a new Type R if it was out, if it had a new high reving Vtec engine then I would.

Disclaimer: If it turns out to be awesome then I would buy it smile

Turbos are disappointing, but expected and necessary addition in the current market.

What they need to do is start fitting the cars with decent suspension again!

I agree the it needs to retain the lighter and high revving ethos of previous Type R's. But I think the EP3 falls into this era, it weights significantly less than a Clio 197 which has smaller dimensions, it revs to 8000rpm and can out accelerate other hot hatches with 220bhp +.

I agree that the FN2 departed from this ethos.

Not that it will matter but they haven't a chance to beat the ring record,no one haven't beat yet the second fastest fwd time, beating a 8.00.8 it will need a touring car setup which i highly doubt the T-R will have or 280 hp (+) and immense grip, which still i doubt the first turbo T-R will have more than 250 hp.

Am I the only one put off by the "fastest fwd car around the 'ring" statement?

Do people still cream themselves over road car lap times?

Not put off, but in most cases, don't see the relevance other than for pub bragging. It tells you only of how much grip or power it has, not how pleasurable it'll be on the road, where lap times mean the square root of bugger all.

Does this mean that the last Type R should hould it value better now seeing as ther will not be a replacement for two years (based on the theory that the 2015 Model Year may be available in September 2014?

I think this will change a lot from how this article suggests it will develop. I can't see 1.6 boosted to thosed power levels lasting. The new ST is a 2.0 Megane, astra, golf all are too. The astra has some serious grunt to it. The rest of the crop will need a suburb chassis to buy that advantage back. My guess is that 1.6 will get stroked to a 1.8 minimum to give it better bottom end torque and make it last a bit longer by dialling the revs back from the race engine. I don't think a 1.6 producing 260 odd hp will be drivable and robust enough. Just my guess though.

I think they know what they are doing, they're pretty good at high specific output engines.
