I do agree with the James May comment that if you have blocked someone in in a pub car park and someone asks who owns the Aston people would be impressed when you stood up to go and move it in a way which other cars would not do (Maserati probably having a similar effect, however).
It's a nice thought but I suspect you'd get the same response as every other driver. That is a lot of people in a pub muttering "cock and wker" under their breath.

Heh, that's a bit like when people on here say how nice it would be to be able to say; "Shall we take the Aston, dear?"

To me, that's possibly the most cringeworthy sentence anyone could ever muster.

IMO, a really cool car is one that looks fantastic but no one knows what it is.

Quite. This an an example of effortless cool:

This takes a bit more effort but still devastatingly cool:

Everything on that list is now uncool anayway, that is the rule of cool...if the masses think it's cool, then it isn't anymore
I think you're confusing 'cool' with 'hip'.

And it's very difficult not to be in a marketing group. All those anti-iPhone Nokia Lumina owners are in a niche all by themselves - well known to marketing types.

Still here's what's top of my 'desirable' list: stable and happy family relationships, financial security, doing work I love, and having a car or two I really enjoy driving and owning on the drive.

The rest is just stuff.

No matter what the associations, quite by chance about an hour ago a black DB9 went past me and gave it a little throttle and I had to exercise restraint not to turn and stare at it. It's definitely a cool car, but whether the brand itself is cool is a slightly different matter.

After much thought I think #1 should be Riva (part of the Ferretti group).

Pretty much anyone would fail to look 'cool' mooring up anywhere in a Riva.

So are you agreeing or disagreeing?

Cool Aston Martin if used and not just driven to car shows

Uncool Aston Martin, may as well be any other expensive sports car.

It's how I see the Aston Martin brand to be honest, their cars don't really have a 'cool' image for me any more. Not saying they're bad or not good looking, but they're not cool that's for sure. smile

I don't agree with many of these brands being cool.

Apple - losing coolness with every new OS release. I still hate Windows though.

Bang & Olufsen - Come on! 70% of the cost is making it do fancy stuff like doors opening. Surely it'd have to be Quad or Linn etc. for sound quality above anything else.

Häagen-Dazs - The name was made up by some Americans so that it sounded European (e.g. Norwegian, Danish etc.) but the letter order doesn't fit with any single language. i.e. in no language does "ä" followed by "a".

If I had squillions of pounds to spend on a cool car, it'd be a Facel Vega, Monteverdi, Iso Grifo or Gordon Keeble.
Totally agree, but I think there is almost 2 definitions of cool. Popular cool, Apple, Nike, SupaDry etc... Apple for instance have force their peers to improve their design, up their game on functionality and almost enialated Nokia in the process.

Cult cool... Quad, Linn, Riva Boats... Not known to the general masses (hence not making cool surveys) so not sold in the numbers by the popular stuff or even that easily accessible. These are bought by people who want something different, more focused, specialised and not available in any High St or shopping centre. I have friends who would presume Quad or Linn must be crap on the basis that if it was any good they would've heard of them.

There could be an arguement for Apple being in both camps!!!

In many ways I think a Bristol could really be categorised as very cool purely because they have never tried to anything other than what they are, pretty sure there was no effort put into being quirky and off-beat, they just are what they are.

The 400 is cool in my view, as is a 456 because they are elegant and understated in a way a 458 misses by a lot more than the country mile.

It is intrinsically uncool to appear on a cool list.

need a new generation of cool clearly..some old favourites here that were possibly 'cuel' when they had their moment in time but time has moved on for many of these brands.. both automotive and otherwise..Mercedes Benz my biggest issue, third one I have owned and they're a pile of utter s**t..gearbox just gone on this one...trading on past glory...

Edited to emphasise "understated" and "quality"*, while also not ignoring "overpriced".

Watches are for telling time, good watches are for telling time really well, anything more than that is jewelery or marketing.

* clearly I'm using the word "quality" here with regard to engineering, rather than as an indicator of how excellent the jewelery or marketing is.

actually to be honest I got a bit lost after the Facel Vega..which is a truly splendid thing of beauty...but the rest simply sound cool (with the exception of Gordon Keeble who sounds like a poor chap bullied at school...remember trying to sell display advertising in the early '90's to a dealer in SW London and visiting the garage only to 'forget' why I was there losing myself over his stock of immaculate Facel Vegas..

Utterly pointless, surely people buy a product based mainly on its capabilities and not how cool something is perceived to be by some pompus pr**k

My #1 would be Breitling
Breitling are not cool, they are producers of overpriced crap.

Having said that, I guess that is what's considered 'cool' these days; gone are the days of understated quality being 'cool'. Next time, if indeed ever, you consider purchasing a Breitling then take a swift left turn and look at the Patek Philippe range.
Had a look at Patek Philippes and I find them either too blingy, too fat or just don't like the faces. Not to mention they're silly money and only worth about 1/20th of what they cost. (IMO)

There's only a couple of Breitlings I really like, Aerospace with either titanium grey or silver case, gold highlights. Blue dial with gold highlights.

Chronomats are nice too:-

Others are either too big or too blingy.

If they're having to reduce new prices that's good news for me, the used prices will also fall smile

Apple WAS cool before everybody knew about them(before iphones/itunes/ipads etc).

Isn't B&O just recycled Phillips old tech inside with a glossy reskin to appease the snobs?
