Got to be a better proposition than sinking 32k on a diesel Golf.

A used MG Rover 75 V8 makes far more 'sense' - same engine, reasonable handling, ultimate Q-car - all for sub £10k (if you can find one).
I believe the engines were a lot more powerful in the SV compared to the 75.

I used one over a couple of days around 5 years ago! Never again!! Was expecting it to feel a lot more powerful, steering was as vague as a vague thing just outside vague city!!!

A car I hate with a passion cos it took so much time away from dealing with the real issues the company was suffering from and absorbed cash in a useless and stupid project - the usual men with small willies wanting to drive big cars problem!!

BUT - on the overun there really is a most remarkable sound - it sucks air in as if trying to hoover small children off the pavement and fires it out the back in a rather lovely nascar type noise, very addictive! Everything else about it was total and utter drivel!

The 'leather' doesn't even want to stay on he seats! Definitely not what I'd invest £40k in, when there are so many other investment-type cars out there for the same, if not less.

Only ever seen one on the roads - it flew past me on the M6 late one night, must have been doing 120+ at the speed he passed me. It was in that lurid orange flip paint so popular in the 00s. It was impressive, loud, bullish and looked a hoot but possibly driven by a knob.

Probably will be worth something in the future purely down to its rarity but not that particular one, one with all the docs to back up it rolled out of the MG factory when new.

Indeed, and there is a few in PH. For £5k, this looks great:

Very tempting, though boot space is a bit compromised!

Different engine, different car, supercar looks and construction. Really quite different cars and not worth comparing tbh.

Punto headlight and coupe rear lights......

Interesting...

I only ever came across one of these on the road once, it sounded great but that was about it....

What parts exactly can't you get for these cars or are you BS'ing?

They are totally different. I believe the SV used the DOHC 4.6 and 5.0 "Cammer" engines. These are part of the same Ford 'Modular' series of engines, but that's about it. It's a bit like comparing a BMW 320 and M3 engine.....

Yes it has Punto headlights and Fiat Coupe tail lights and yes all the forum critics have jumped on the bland wagon, "I'd rather have a Rover 75 V8". Taking all the haters opinions into consideration I'm off to sell a Kidney or Lung.

Brilliant car.

What you mean in the same way McLaren didn't get rid of the bus rear light units that they used in the F1?

I've a soft spot for these, 3 years ago I missed out on a decently priced one & have been keeping half an eye on the classifieds since. I think I'll be giving this one a miss.

Power is too mundane. For that price is should include either twin turbos or a supercharger!

This looks like the sort of car you'd get if you gave a bunch of Max Power chavs £250,000 and told them to develop a car. When they launched it I remember thinking "NOBODY with a £60k budget for a car is going to buy that" and it seems I was completely correct. I'm going to say now, "NOBODY with a £40k budget for a car is going to buy that". Whoever made the decision to spunk scarce resources at MGR on this hopeless turd should be ashamed.

wshen rover went bust a liquidation company bought the lot, think it was about 25 of them. i dont remember the alloys being just the same as the ones in the photo. asking price back then was around 50k, i quite like them,at least its diffrent, but would not spend £40k, good feature though

When it comes down to getting involved with insurance companies re:body repairs for many types of Rover, you could well come unstuck because issues with supply/availability mean they are VERY trigger-happy about writing-off cars.

Remember that insurers will never repair cars with used parts and are often very touchy about pattern parts too.

None of that is an issue if you're self-repairing - but a lot of people don't do that and you often won't get the option.

Check any 'usable' salvage dealer and you'll see Rovers piled-high at silly prices. Relatively minor damage gets them written-off but they're often driveable and usable (although stuff like sill damage can lead to early MOT failures of course) - thus lots of 'spare' engines.

Ironic if it's K Series - less so otherwise smile
