RE: Peugeot 208 GTi Limited Edition
Wednesday 26th September 2012
Normally, ‘limited editions’ come out at the end of a run to spur a few more sales. The 29 examples of Peugeot’s 208 GTi Limited Edition, however, will be coming out before the launch of the regular 208 GTi in May 2013.
Peugeot 208 GTi Limited Edition
This one comes out before the main car
Why 29? That’s one for each year since the UK launch of the original 205 GTi in 1984. For your £20,495 you'll get an individually numbered car with satnav, DAB radio, satin pearlescent white paint, 17" Carbon Onyx Black alloys (which don't look all that black) and a Union Jack flag on the grille, signifying the importance of the GTi badge to the UK. The 29 we’re getting here represent the lion’s share (see what we did there) of the 54 that will be sold worldwide.
Evidently over 11,000 UK orders have been placed for the new 208 since the order books opened.

It does look rather nice, but that price appears to be rather high. Then again, it's probably a consequence of inflation, and we need to re-adjust our perceptions.
I know they are not exactly like for like, but I'm not too sure:PEUGEOT 208 GTI LIMITED EDITION

Does the rear have a chrome badge that reads "I spent £20k on this without a test drive! I've literally more money than sense!" or does the dealer write it on the back with their finger leaving a mark on the satin paint that can never be polished off?

They look like they are turning a corner and I really hope the 208 GTi is at least a 4 star in the handling stakes otherwise no one will believe Pug will ever deliver on any level. I wouldn't be in the market for a 208 GTi, I've moved on but I still have a huge soft spot for Peugeot... Maybe a used buy in a few years for my honey.

I really hope they don't use that silly and lame tag line again... I remember driving past a billboard with the 207 GTi on it a few years ago... made me cringe every time I read that.

I remember that tag line! I also remember Top Gear magazine (I think) using it in the good-bad grid line up with the follow up of "No, you're not. F**k off".I really hope they don't use that silly and lame tag line again... I remember driving past a billboard with the 207 GTi on it a few years ago... made me cringe every time I read that.

Hardly comparing apples with apples but Peugeot are on the edge of the abyss, much as they were when the 205 appeared.
So the solution would be to GO RALLYING
Obviously we've moved on - away from kagoules and parkas in a Welsh Forest and into purpose-built X Games arenas
What's needed is a 208 which rivals Ken Block's Fiesta - and someone with the style to drive it.

They did go rallying with the 206 and 307 CC. Ok, there was a 206 GTI but you never hear them fondly remembered as the 205, 306 GTIs.GO RALLYING

I'd have hoped Peugeot would have realised that their best cars were the simple cars.... 205 GTI, 106 Rallye, 306 GTI-6 etc. All great cars becuase they kept the formula for fun simple.
They do better when they stick to a simple formula of creating light, nible, fun cars... You offer satin paints, Climate controls and DAB radios and I just see a hot hatch exactly like every other manufacturer. No USP, and no longer any credability based on previous results.
With Hondas Type R brand and Renaults Cup packs being watered down with every new model(in my opinion), it would have been nice to see Peugeot step into that apparent void.
Plus, french cars keeping things simple is a used buyers dream isn't it; less stuff to fix!

£20,495?! That's only £1,500 less than a new Mazda3 MPS with more of the important stuff and ALL of the toys, I think I'd rather take the Jap.
Japanese vs French.I'd take the Jap option too Tom, glad to hear you are learning
The Peugeot 208GTi does "look" nice though.

Basically Peugeot need of get their products right, up the quality in all areas and inject some fizz and excitement in the ranges. Ferdinand Piech said recently that a European producer with go out of business at some point. Fiat have their woes but Chrysler is bringing home the bacon for them, VW own the majority of anything else - not sure how Seat survives though. BMW and Mercedes will be fine. Renault are having their woes but they have government backing, ties with Nissan and a venture with Mercedes. Peugeot need to get their do do together.
