Does it really matter if it's lighter than a 991 or not?, hardly any one is going to tell any differance between a car that weights 1500kg or 1700kg
It wouldn't matter if they weren't going on about it being "lightweight". If they are and it isn't, then they're just lying.

It would also put it uncomfortably close to the XK. I was hoping it was going to be Boxster/Z4/whatever sized.

Looks awesome, and i love the interior, but 1600KG? Come on man, was expecting in the region of 1400KG at least.

Cars are to heavy!

Make mine a V6 for extra lightness. I can always get it chipped after 3 years. Well Done Jaguar! A winner!

I think it's going to be very close to the current XK yes, i would not be surprised if the XK is not replaced in the next year or two after this launches, and the new XK ends up significantly more expensive than the outgoing car

Here are some more photos from the launch of the F-Type. Lana Del Ray (oh dear!) and Ratan Tata were present.

I hope the panel gaps (internal and external) are better than previous JLR offerings, because it really saddens me to say it, but all the German brands are massively better in these respects. TVR anyone?
Ive never understood the panel gap thing.
Never once on any car Ive ever owned or even looked at have I looked a panel gap.
Never once have I ever heard anybody ask me about the panel gaps on any of my cars.
Never once have I ever head anybody ever mention panel gaps on any of their own cars.

The *only* time Ive ever heard anybody mention panel gaps are motoring journalists.

Always struck me as a fking idiotic thing to consider, especially when looking to spend 50 large on a sports car. And I can absolutely definately tell you when you looked to spend it on a TVR it never even enters your sodding head!!!

It's utterly brilliant.

Good engines

Good spec

This over any other car in the sector, just on concept alone.
It's no concept, it's production now.

Interesting photo, gives the car some perspective.

It's probably the fact that I'm tired, so feel free to call me a mongoloid, but isn't the middle part of the center console supposed to line up properly? It doesn't, and it's like that in every photo I've seen of the interior. Also, it leaves an odd gap with the bit that goes around the gear mode selector surround with the buttons.

It's just an imperfection I'd become obsessed with each time I looked at it.

£58,500 for the base model with 18s, cloth seats, no SatNav?? They've got to be kidding! These will be £65k on the road, I think they've seriously misjudged the market.

Why can't I shift it for myself. I have no problems with my XJR slush box but for a car like this it will not compete against the best of the best with an automatic.

Jaguar really are coming on leaps & bounds, some very impressive machines made in the last few years.
Great to see them shake off the old, stale image and become something that is exciting, modern & stylish.

Blimey! Must... resist... looking... at... it...

Lord Metcalfe has thrown these prices onto twitter:
"F-Type prices £58.5k for base V6, £67.5k for more potent V6, £79950 for V8
Too much money. Shame"

Really thought it would be smaller. It is quite a bit bigger than the 991 and heavier too. Far more exciting than a 991 though.
I wonder though, if the 911 isn't trapped by its lineage?

Cars are needing to be bigger and bigger to meet the expectations of the wealthy countries and their buyers. The Evoque is very wide also.

Maybe an all new car has an edge as it can be built to meet these expectations but the Porsche will struggle to go any larger?

Off topic but just a thought.

and yet people will happily throw Aston Martin twice that for a reheated, 10 year old, worse looking, worse performing car.
