Far more exciting than a 991 though.
In what way? I've driven the 991 and it's bloody brilliant, this car is going to have to go some to stand up in comparison to it.

Glorious cloud9

And thanks, Mr Tata, for supplying the development dough and having the faith beer

Apart from a need for three pedals and a stick, why would anyone want an Aston Vantage? jester

I can't get away from the fact it looks like a car designed for a game where the developers didn't have any licences and so they took bits of a Nissan, bits of a Ferrari California and a few other 'ideas' and threw them together.

I hope to god that

a - they improve it for production a bit
b - it looks better in the metal

Because I'm not a fan here and now.

I hope the panel gaps (internal and external) are better than previous JLR offerings, because it really saddens me to say it, but all the German brands are massively better in these respects. TVR anyone?

Cannot wait for Harris to get his hands on this. What price are we looking at for the big daddy V8? Carrera S money?

It's not bad, but it isn't 10% of what a true follow up to the E type should be.

Nice, but no legend.
How would you envisage a "true follow up to the E type"? Genuine question.
It was meant as a riposte to comments declaring it as such. It isn't, and it would be unrealistic to expect such.

It would have to be as fast as any contemporary supercar, breathtakingly good looking, essentially a reclothed le mans car, and half the price of anything it competes with.

Looks bloody good, but the legacy is immeasurably better. Imho.

I wish this car - and Jaguar - well. However, the grille is the wrong shape and it's way too fussy. It looks like an end-of-line special edition rather than a new model. Shame we can't break new ground these days.

I understand concerns bout gap quality etc etc and the fact that it might not be as cheap as a Z4.....but come on from 1st impressions if this car makes you feel as good as it looks, does any of that stuff matter

Gonna sell shed loads....well done JLR another cracking creation

No mention of a manual gearbox? frown

No mention of weight either. With all this talk of "light weight" it had damned well be lighter than a 991.

Wow, I really like the look of it. Pricing seems high, but Jags are always well kitted out, and with a decent spec'd 991 costing over 100k, it doesn't look so bad.

Makes me wonder what pricing they have in mind for the next XK. A few years ago, my nearly new XKR was very much at the lower end of the F type pricing range.

E-Diff is catagorically not what you think it is. Jags E-Diff is an electrically controlled mechanically locking LSD which is superior to a helical, clutched or any other type of LSD. Normal diffs are dumb as to what the car is doing when they lock ad unlock. E-Diff uses all the dynamic sensors in the car to control when and how much it locks. So the list in performance goes:

Open->ESP braked open diff->LSD->E-Diff
Erm... yes it is.

It's not just me, in EVO Magazine PCOTY in 2011 in front of me here, Richard Meaden said; 'Over the limit, the Jag's electronic rear diff splits opinion - some like the fact that it appears to lock initially to get the tail kicking wide and then slacken to naturally stabilise the slide, but others would prefer the slightly sharper, more predictable control of a normal LSD.'

I'm relying partly on the mags' experience because I've not tried an E-diff myself, but I've tried every other type over the years, and now have a quaife torsen lsd in two cars, which I find ideally progressive for both road and occasional track use, and could be combined with electronic safety nets too giving the best of both worlds.

Alternatively, maybe the electronics could be re-programmed to give more precise control to exactly mimic a mechanical diff with optimised ramp angles etc., but they probably feel the slackening off is necessary to 'help drivers out'. Which sounds like the hydratrak diff in Cosworth Sierra's and some TVR's that I knew very well, they were consequently very tricky to balance around the limit of traction.

It's utterly brilliant.

Good engines

Good spec

This over any other car in the sector, just on concept alone.

In what way? Obviously it can only be two ways; Visually and aurally as none of us have driven the bloomin' Jag yet!

Does it really matter if it's lighter than a 991 or not?, hardly any one is going to tell any differance between a car that weights 1500kg or 1700kg
