More significantly, the performance pack model also gets 17-inch front discs, an inch larger than standard
17-inch discs? That's bigger than the ones on a Veyron!
Yes, I wondered about that. Are they mounted slightly inboard or something? Otherwise I don't understand how there would be enough room for the caliper 'within' the wheel.
That's German for "discs that will fit under 17 inch wheels or greater" I would imagine.

GOD how does VW manage to make cars so dull? It's almost like it's trying to blend into the background even on it's motorshow debut!

And now with some of these cars costing in the region of £50k....why you wouldn't just save up a few more months and buy a brand new Jag F-type for £58k and a banger (which will also blend in,be boring and thus and have the same effect) I don't know.

The word "concept" has never been so exploited.

from a 220 bhp 2.0 turbo? thats quite good if true
I'd go even further - bloody brilliant even considering "claimed" and "real world" figures often tend to contradict..

Just unhappy design outside red stripes included - and plaid/check seats?? Yuk!

Technically very impressive on paper, just so... meh...

So far so Golf, but I am interested in the 5 spoke throwing star shaped wheels. It looks like the wheels are specific to the right and left side of the car. Assymmetrical spoked wheels look like they are pointing forward on one side, and backward on the other side if you use the same design, but the new wheels look like they have a specific right and left side to them, ala Huayra...

Me too - as ever (from memory of my MkII red GTi) the new red stripe not too noticeable on a red car! (and yes, my Mk5 is red!)

It becomes increasingly different to tell which is a Golf and which is a Polo. Save a packet and buy the smaller one.
What a daft comment. Like saying the A4 looks like an A8 so buy an A8.
I think the emphasis you missed was on the "Save a packet" wording.

Replace "Golf" with A6 and "Polo" with A4 it it might make more sense.... assuming that an A4 is indeed cheaper than an A6. They shure as sh*t look the same.

Golf model has not changed enough since the MK5 imo. it's really just been facelift styling changes and if you look at the big transitions like from mk2 to mk3 to mk4 then they need a radical change.

be bolder VW!

I really like that. It looks mean yet understated and the performance with the economy sound like an ideal daily driver package. Isn't the mk7 lighter than the mk5?

Shame it will cost £35k.

Steve

Prices for the normal MK7 models have been held in Germany, some are even little cheaper compared to the 6.

So £25k will get you a "basic" version, the low power version.

It will be lighter, let wait for the official figures.

Not sure about the red in the lights. Very nice overall- I'm sure they'll sell well as usual- bring on the R!

I think it looks good, its one of VW's biggest sellers, so I guess they have to play safe with the styling.

I'd always choose a Golf over an A3. Don't really know why, it's just a default choice of mine.
Yes picking which freshly painted wall to watch dry is a difficult decision.
