Beautiful all-round design. The spoiler looks tacky; leave it out fellas.

And yes, the acceleration and top speed DOES matter. We've waited 20 years for this. If this doesn't beat the B.Veyron SS in straight line performance, it's still in 2nd position in my eyes.

It looked better in the first shots really, a bit messy, maybe look better in a different solid colouring.

Love it. The wing does add an element of balance to the overall design.

I'm also a big fan of engineers/designers creating a car that could be quick anywhere not just around an immense banked oval. 250+mph means very little if you can never use it. The ability to lap a true race track at competition speeds in a car that you have driven there in comfort seems far more relevant.

Hmm. The more I see this, the less I like it.

Right I reakon 227 MPH, seeing top speed is not a 'priority'

after being impressed by the press shots...I don't like the look of it in the flesh..very messy design - F1 looks way better...

and wtf is going on with the door panelling gap next to the wheel??

Genuinely gorgeous looking car. I'm pleased to see it is so different, yet so similar to McLaren's previous cars.
I think too that this is one of the first 'futuristic' looking top end cars, and it does it so very well.

Stats are going to be impressive, no matter what we all speculate.

I have one fear for it though, and that's that it might suffer the same problems the MP4-12C has, in that it's 'too good', not involving, etc. Well, maybe. It might also just blow the crap out of everything past/present/near future.

Definitely a poster car!

Sadly... I think it's the spiritual descendant to the first generation Hyundai Coupe, not the McLaren F1.

Love it.

But unless it's painted all-black, that black grille/spoiler thingy contrasting against a non-black body colour gives the front-end a hint of an-Exige-starting-to-give-birth: "Push! Push! C'mon, push! Ah, here it comes... I can see its head... It's a 'Ron'!" eek

5 times more downforce than a 12C? Surely that is a vmax derived figure which is ironic considering the vmax isn't important...
McLaren would disagree.

Press Release said:
The new McLaren P1 has much higher levels of downforce than any current road car – 600kg is achieved well below maximum speed. That is approximately five times as much downforce as a McLaren 12C.
Press Release said:
Power to weight ratio will be more than 600PS per tonne. ‘But a major reason for its extraordinary performance is its high level of downforce and its all round aerodynamic excellence. They do not just improve stability, handling, roadholding and braking at high speed. They also improve agility and driver confidence at much lower speeds. Our goal was to get great levels of downforce at lower speeds, and we have achieved that.

The front looks a bit like a catfish trying to eat a black rubber ring. It's a shame the world seems to have moved on from the gorgeous, elegant rationality of the original F1, which is still the benchmark for me (including its lack of driver aids, i.e. the thing that imbues a sports car with its necessary challenge-and-reward element).

Agreed - Some great (GREAT) touches like the headlights....and yes the wing is actually quite a remarkably different realisation of active aero on a modern supercar... BUT, as many have said, FAR FAR too messy and incongruent to be a design classic. Shame... BUT then it only makes it easier for the original to remain my dream car!

In that thin black strip running around the back of the car just below where the orange bodywork finishes.

It's a very good day to be a petrolhead. Spoiler balances it out IMO and obviously raises when required/requested.

THe 12C makes a great deal more sense with the P1 as the halo car. Subtle, non-flashy (although you see it in the flesh and it's a lovely bit of kit) and is happy performing many roles from daily driver, to turning in incredible lap times and of course crushing rivals. If the P1 can better this, which it surely has to, and is a little rawer due to the fact it is a full-on supercar, we should be a very proud nation today. This, for me, is what it's all about. What a magnificent option to have, although I'd not get it in that awful orange.
