I'll upload a photo of my install when I get a moment - it's very tidy I would say and minimal wires but I do have it fixed v close to the top of the screen rather than a few inches down (I have no rear view mirror for it to be housed behind).

I've got a problem with my power lead though - it's fallen apart at the cig lighter end. Does anyone know what sort of lead it is? Guessing its just a 12A > 5A converter lead to mini USB port?

I got a spare lead because we have three cars, and the camera is swapped between two of them.

Cheers Chris (my guru on this thread!).

It's quite annoying as I hardwired the original lead through the dash (took my entire dash top off and ran it through the wires and air vents underneath!).

Either I embark on a massive project of taking it all apart again or just run it under the dash as neatly as possible ! I don't like mess (OCD about neatness of design!!).

I am the same, I hate wires trailing all over the dash - I had it hard wired into the Mini and my Tamora - and managed to hide the wire myself for my wife's MG.

Mini 0801
Genuine Power Magic Pro
x2 Add-a-circuits

This will give you 1080p HD rolling all the time for less than 100. Takes about an hour to install.

Here's a link to the camera: http://www.amazon.co.uk/E-PRANCE-Original-Ambarell...

Here's a link to a installation guide: http://hondakarma.com/guides/dash-cam-hardwiring-t... (there's a blue download link top right)

Here's some links to the footage of various encoding qualities, some only 720p, dull weather conditions etc. I've not uploaded any at full quality, I'll get round to it eventually as I'll need to do it in my own server space so that YouTube etc doesn't mess about with the encoding.

Instead of plugging something like that into a lighter socket if you are taking the dash apart you might as well put one of these behind there

I think* the cable ends you need are 'mini b USB cables'

Hi guys. After reading through lots of posts and pages on here I've ordered a mini 0801 with the 32gb card option. Question though, whats the best way to power it? I don't like to cables hanging loose so I will probable drop the head lining and run the cables down the A pillars.
Check out my install guide a few posts back. You can usually run the wire behind the head liner trim where it meets the windscreen, down behind your A-Pillar and behind your glove box (or whichever side has your fuse box).

Power Magic Pro and a couple of add-a-circuits from Amazon to protect your original fuse circuits. Mind to check if your fuse box is standard or mini blade. The Power Magic Pro will protect your battery from going flat.

I've just got a Mio 338 from Halfords, ex demo, it had sat in a display cabinet, all the bits, 30, which seemed very good.

It's a nice little unit, the footage is decent enough quality to make out reg numbers etc, though it is 720p rather than 1080

I've got it chucked on the screen at the moment although I am about to change cars when I'll have it wired in properly.

Excellent guide. With the Mini 0801, whats the need to add the permanent live? Surely you only need an ignition fed live? The cam can run on the battery after the car shuts down and until the timeout after power disconnect settings period (set in the camera)?

I have just got 2 x Mini 0801, one for my £500 weekend toy MX5, which is already fitted quick and dirty style (ignition fed cig lighter only)

If you've added the permanent live for the motion detect, I read that using the motion detect with these camera's has been shown to cause issues with the camera and it's recommended to turn it off? (I read a lot of reviews for diff ones so i could be confused!)

So is the E-PRANCE New Mini 0801 the one to get these days?

I previously had a £40 camera from Smartcam, but it was totally unreliable (even when it said it was recording, there was a good chance it wasn't) and I can't be bothered with anything temperamental this time.

ETA: never mind:

I bough this dash cam after reading other reviews. If I new then what I know now I would never have gone near the company. The dash cam itself is fine, but it didnt work. it didnt record, it didnt stay on, It turned itself off when driving.

Keeps locking up, even tried with alternative SD cards.
This is exactly what was happening to my other camera - I also tried other SD cards to no avail.

Why don't these manufacturers realise that if these cameras aren't reliable, they're a complete waste of time.

I've fitted a mobius to my car for the commute along the M4.

On it's first outing it captured two high speed undertakes followed by a 4 car 120mph race down the M4 on Monday lunchtime.

Are you sure you were close enough to the mondeo? If people are flashing you from behind and looking to undertake its probably better to back off from the car in front to allow yourself more space in case things go wrong.

Easy to say from the sofa, it's a bit different when you are there in the situation.

You're presumably just waiting for someone to say it also captured you doing 85 and also much less than 2 seconds from the car in front ... idea

It also captured a somewhat short sighted swerve into lane 1 and straight back out again.

When I eventually get off my arse and make a decision about what camera wouldn't be posting something like that tbh.

I presume you 3 are all driving gods then, lets not worry about the MLM van or OLM Mondeo driver, or the undertaking Q5 etc.

Get upset if you want but really, it wasn't driving to be proud of was it? Certainly not something I'd happily upload onto the internet.

I didn't say I was a god, i did say it was easy to criticise from the sofa but if you put up a video moaning about other peoples driving then you open yourself up if you make mistakes.

I don't use motion detect, I just leave it running all the time instead. I think the reason for having both power feeds wired in even though I'm not using motion detect is to take the load off the battery when the car is on, although it's not much load to be honest. The battery in the camera itself doesn't last long.
