I got this one at the a few weeks ago, I'm sure it'll have caused some damage to the other car. Watch out for bottomless puddles!

Ouch!
I might show my mother-in-law that. She was complaining yesterday about following a car that kept moving out to avoid puddles and how they were driving like a madman.

Hi guys. After reading through lots of posts and pages on here I've ordered a mini 0801 with the 32gb card option. Question though, whats the best way to power it? I don't like to cables hanging loose so I will probable drop the head lining and run the cables down the A pillars.
I bought one of those cheap cigarette lighter socket adapters from the £ shop, took it apart, added some fly leads, insulated it (shrink wrap) and powered it from the car's rear view mirror power supply (automatic dimmer). Alternatively, You might find a suitable ignition switched supply if you have a sunroof?
I kept the USB socket fitted, and used a USB cable so I can power any new dash camera I buy from the same power source in the future. Simple and neat, with no messy cables showing.

Sorry for the basic questions guys… I am thinking of getting an E-PRANCE New Mini 0801 dash cam and have a few questions first…

What wires do I need to hard wire into place? Just a 12V feed or is there more?

How do you get the video off the dash cam? Is it on a HD card that I can remove and put into my PC or Ipad? Or do I do it via a lead?

Ones with internal memory, do they also have an SD card as well?

What’s the advantage, disadvantage of one with GPS?

Do I need motion detection?

We have 3 cars and I would like to use it in all three… running wires is not a problem, do they come with a removable mount, or can you buy spare mounts?

Where do most of you guys mount them?

Thanks in advance!

I have one, brilliant camera. I only got the poverty spec one, with no GPS, and no internal memory as I thought that spending an extra £15 on a 32gb Class 6 Micro SD card was better as easier to remove. You take the memory card out and carry it to a pc and connect it up using an adapter usually supplied with the card itself. You can also plug the camera directly into any pc and look at the footage that way.

I don't have mine hardwired, I have mine running into a socket in the boot of my car. The mount is removable, but looks like it'll be a bit of force and a faff to do so, but the camera does come out of the mount easily.

Motion detection is standard on them I think, had it on for a while, but it used to switch off a lot in stationary traffic (not good) so I keep it on a live feed recording in 5 minute intervals.

I bought mine off of Amazon, with a 32g class 6 (vital, as doesn't appear to like class 10) Samsung Micro SD for about £70/80?

I think you can buy spare mounts, but it would be less hassle to buy 3, tbh.

If you have GPS you can prove your location and speed. The disadvantage is if you are speeding then you have proved that you were speeding.

Having a camera records all bad driving, whether that's yours or someone else's.

I can see a time where there plod will have computers in their cars and they will ask to view the footage from your car if they've pulled you over for something. If you are steaming down lane 3 of the motorway then you have provided some pretty good evidence of this.

Thanks,

can you turn the GPS off, does it show speed on the video?

If you get one, can you report back?

I was about to buy one, but was put off by the reviews on Amazon, people experiencing the same issues that I experienced on my previous SmartCam one (locking up, not recoding when it said it was). Thanks.

I've been thinking of one for ages but after an incident today I've pretty much decided I'm going to get one of these.

Has anyone got an 0803 yet?

Yep, had the 0803 a week or two now. Superb camera :-)

As you where backing out your garage I was looking and thinking "Wonder where in the UK this is, looks like America" then you pulled on to the street and I went "OH." hehe

Helped my decision though, cheers. smile

LOL, yeah, emigrated here last year. The footage is even better when viewed directly on the PC. I'm not sure Super HD is really required, but the footage I got off it this weekend driving to Lake Tahoe really was spectacular :-)

Also downloaded a utility called RegistratorViewer - open the footage in that and it shows the video, map of the route via GPS, speed, etc - really good. Image below is a screen shot from the route in the video link above

There seem to be lots of different versions of the 0801 and 0803. Which version should I go for, and where/who should I buy it from?

On the offer, delete the GPS sensor and it's £70. Job done.

I went with this one :

E-PRANCE Mini 0803 Ambarella A7LA50D Chip Full HD 1296P(Upgrade Mini 0801),With GPS Logger,With internal 8G memory model + 32GB Memory Card

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JIPRZWE/ref=...

0803 has faster chip over 0801. The idea of the internal memory is that you can save clips from the memory card to the internal memory if you have to hand the card to the police. Its very easy to do. I went with the 32Gb memory card as supplied which is Class4.

Very pleased so far. Very easy to set up straight out of the box. I will have mine hard wired as well and its so small behind the rear view mirror it does not get in the way.

Picks up the radio and conversations in the car so might turn mic off.

Have only had it a few days and have looked at the results which are very good. Very strange watching yourself drive familiar roads.
