Have to say using this method is a lot easier and safer than attempting to wrench the unit away from the screen using a combination of brute force and a screwdriver, which may well break the base unit or crack the windscreen in the process!

With regard to the sticky tape, I replaced the ghastly grey tape with a black double sided foam tape 25mm wide x 4mtr long which stuck like st to a blanket. Thanks chap, dental floss worked a treat, just left the dash a little dirty. However trying to get the remaining sticky residue of the windscreen is proving to be a pain, partly due to the fact its very awkward to get to hidden behind the rear view mirror.
i will however try some of her nail polish remover and see if it does the trick.
Need to fish out all the cables now, spent a long time removing trim and making sure it was all hidden away, I'm a little tempted to just cut the plug off the wire and then pull the wire out, its a lot quicker then removing trim, but maybe thats just lazy...

Is the Mini 0803 'the one to buy'? It looks pretty decent and it's only £65, which is a LOT less than I paid for my old Blackvue, which I wasn't that impressed with.

The 0803 has been replaced by the 0805 model which probably explains the drop in price. Also worth bearing in mind is the fact that the 0806 is due to be released very shortly.

Unless you need improved low-light and night-time viewing then the 0801 is perfectly acceptable. Have to say the video quality is vastly superior to the Blackvue dash cam which I had previously purchased for a good deal more money and which I was totally unimpressed with. Take a look at a few video download links I posted on here a few pages back because the 0801 video quality really is very very good.

Just make sure you don't buy a 'too cheap to be true' fake unit from a dodgy Ebay or Amazon seller!

I've an 0803 and touch wood it's been perfectly adequate and worked thus far. Image quality isn't as good as a gopro buts it's a lot cheaper!

I didn't see the 0805 Is that better than the 0803 overall? If the 0806 is due soon then I shall wait. They all look like amazing value for money!

I do a lot of my driving after dark, especially in the winter months, so I want as good an image quality as I can get really. If 'the higher the number, the better the camera' rings true, then I'll get the 05 or wait for the 06 .


Do they automatically power on and off if you power them from an ignition-switched supply? And can you disable the screen whilst driving?

Night quality on my 803 is excellent. Bit disappointed with daytime video, though, as not too good when heading into the light. Workaround is to lower camera view to show less sky and more bonnet/fascia!

Goes on + off with ignition and screen not on when driving. 'Recording' LED is a bit bright, though. But with camera behind rear view mirror or judicious use of black marker pen this is sorted, too!

Looking forward to 806 review then, if better, 803 can go into rear window!

When I bought mine it came with a free wiring kit.

Don't get your 12v + 5v confused, though! Things could get expensive!

Good advice from Cliftonite.

The small LCD display automatically switches off after a minute or two, you can set this in the preferences. Is handy to have because you can see where the camera is looking instead of best guessing. And yes I can confirm that it does automatically switch on when you start up, and switch off again when you switch the ignition off, well always assuming you have it plugged into the cigarette lighter. If you have hard-wired it then ensure you have it set to motion detect so that it only records movement - not an issue when driving, but when parked up you don't really want hours of video footage of a brick wall do you? IF someone scrapes your car or knocks your wing mirror off there is a small possibility that you might catch the offenders on video.

The 0805 is an improved version of the 0803, the 0806 which is due to be launched at the end of December/early January has been completely redesigned with much improved night-time video quality and can accept 128GB cards for longer recording times before the older footage is automatically written over, I believe you can pre-order these 0806 dash cams at a cost of £90, though not sure if that includes post and packing.

I've had no problems using my 0801 and the only thing I can fault (apart from the Engrish instruction manual) is its poor low-light capabilities now that the mornings and late afternoons are getting darker. Might take the plunge and use the 0801 as the rear view camera and buy the 0806 because I have a 128GB micro SD card spare. Seems like the manufacturers have listened to what users are requesting because the ventilation certainly looks much improved. Just hoe it retaining the all black finish which I think looks very impressive, plus it blends in with the rear view mirror so unlikely to be stolen.

It's a great little dash cam providing far better video quality than the Blackvue or Mi-Witness cameras that it replaced and for substantially less money.

Only other dash cam I could suggest you take a look at is the Lukas LK-7900 ACE, but it's a fair bit more expensive coming in at £186, and it's also a far more clunky design that stands out far too much for my liking when stuck on the windscreen. With no LCD screen so not as easy to position correctly.

No worries, as I mentioned, the 0806 is due to be launched at the end of December/early January but can be pre-ordered ahead of this date.

Must admit I'm always wary of ordering any new models whether they be cars, cameras, phones, computers, or software updates, etc. just in case there are a few teething problems with the first batch.

If I buy the 0806 when it comes out, are the gps mounts interchangeable?

I.e can I drop the 06 camera into my current mount and then the 01 onto the new supplied mount but in another car/ on the rear screen??

This landed last week and I've finally fitted it up for the rear cam today. Just need to sort out the date/time setting, hook it to a permanent live to retain it and I'm done!

Seriously impressed with the video quality for £25!!

Apparently the pre-sale 0806 dash cams were being fitted with the later mounts fitted to the 0801 and 0803 dash cams, but I'm led to believe that the finalised 0806 dash cams will be released with an improved mount, now whether this means the mount on your 0801 is compatible with the 0806 body is unknown at this point in time.

Would be nice to know that the manufacturers of the 0806 are paying attention to owners looking to upgrade whilst leaving the original mounts in position if they choose to do so.

When I was looking for a higher quality video footage than the far more expensive Blackvue or Mi-witness dash cams I must admit I was tempted by this model, and certainly a fantastically low price to pay for a very impressive dash cam. But I chose not to purchase it because it was 720p so potentially not quite good enough because I wanted to be able to read the number plates of approaching cars just in case they caused an accident. Would be mighty impressed if this 720p dash camera provided this high level of resolution.

The 0801 dash cam I purchased has been superseded by the 0803, 0805 and now the 0806 dash cams, though each improvement has resulted in a more expensive dash cam. I'm tempted to purchase the latest 0806 when it is finally unveiled in late December or early January because it has an improved lens, better cooling, and more importantly, space for two 128GB mini SD cards.

The price for the 0806 is £90 which isn't unreasonable considering its improved specifications on the 0803 and 0805 predecessors. Though will wait for a few weeks after its launch before ordering to see if there are any technical glitches which need to be ironed out.
