I@m just going to route the standard cigar lighter properly. The only real reason for hard wiring is for motion detection and i'm not bothered about that at this stage.

The adaptor is huge mind you so a little unsightly but i can deal with that.

have took the plunge for the 801, seems it has went up in price since the start of the month frown

Anyone hardwired into an E46 BMW with these? any tips?
Yes, use the make-a-circuit referred to earlier along with one of the items in my post above depending on how hardwired you want it to be. The options are a dedicated power supply with a 5v output or a 12v-5v surface mount adapter which has a pair of USB ports.

What's the improvement on the 0801? Better camera?

Just got my 0801 fitted, but having issues with Lighter socket as the housing is on the large side.

I have got a USB in the glove box. Could I run it from this without an issue?

Also should the box have software in it for the GPS tracking? Or is it downloadable from somewhere?

Yes you can run it from your USB socket, it should supply enough power.

OK, wifey's 0805 is running well, except for the fact she has a heated windscreen and therefore there is no GPS data. Is there an add-on or anything I can do? (Fiesta btw)

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but assume that many users of satnavs may be experiencing similar problems in cars with heated windscreens so perhaps it might be worthwhile posting the question on the Sat Nav Systems forum to see how they overcame this issue.

My dad wants to buy me a dashcam as a present so I've started researching them. It's between the 0801 and 0803 at the moment but I'd like help on purchasing from Amazon...there's an awful lot of different links to the same cam all from E-Prance and all at different prices???

Do they come from the same place, in which case it's just going for the cheapest?

Also, there are a lot of negative reviews rating 1 star which is a bit off putting, is it a game of chance on these cheaper cams?

Unless you are driving in low light or at night, the rather straight-forward 0801 provides similar 1080p video quality, is cheaper, and is probably more reliable than the 0803, I purchased an 0801 dash cam sold by Eprance and fufilled by Amazon, complete with a 32GB card for £47 from Amazon and delivery was next day, link is: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IKEVT6W - I note that the same seller is also listing the 0805 dash cam.

Also worth visiting is Combi based in Leicestershire, so should the dash cam malfunction at least you don't have to post it back 6000 miles and wait for a replacement (which may well get accidentally lost in the post!) Combi have a UK telephone number and a email address to contact them on. Email: support@combi.org.uk or phone: 01455-233988.

The video quality of the 0801 is surprisingly good, download a view a few one minute samples (100MB each) I recorded in my car using the 0801 last year to make up your own mind:

https://mega.co.nz/#!4MZUEbqZ!-Z5Vz5lUhqMu4p-N2QH3...

https://mega.co.nz/#!YRJGkAya!aq5EvUeAfqnP3m-8TwgR...

There are plenty of fake dash cam and SD card sellers on the internet, though I've purchased from both these sellers and have been very pleased with the products supplied - hasten to add I've not had to return anything from the Amazon seller so can't comment on what happens if the product is faulty!

The only other dash cam I would currently consider buying is the Mobius, do a search on YouTube for 'TechMoan 0801' and also 'Techmoan mobius' to see how he rates both of these dash cams (and many others). Well worth watching wink

Got 0801's in my car. Work perfect.

The Mrs QQ has an 0803 that I've just wired in, exactly same way using an add a circuit. Weird thing is, when she starts the car, sometimes and seemingly randomly, the thing goes completely potty and just beeps at her. It continues to beep and won't stop.

If she disconnects the power it goes nuts still until it finally runs out of battery. Switching it off with the power switch does nothing either!

Any ideas??

Quite a lot of difference actually. I posted a chart a few pages back showing the differences. The 0805 has a greater field of view, runs cooler, much better sensor which has huge benefits in low light etc. I have an 0803 and had an 0806 on order until I read some of the reviews of early units. I had a voucher from work so decided to splurge on the 0805 instead. I managed to put a tiny mark on the 0803 lens and to be honest, it's barely noticeable in use but it's been annoying me thanks to my OCD (I posted clips a few pages back showing the slight 'bloom' that's only really visible with oncoming lights at night on a small section of the image). I'll keep it as a spare or give it to mum.

I picked up an 0803 in December and have only had a minor issue, the flashing red light is going mental but easily ignored. Other then that all is fine and i've not had to touch it since installed.

Sometimes when recording the light on mine flashed blue the rapid red. I read somewhere that it's having a problem with the card when it's reaching capacity. It results on lost video for a period of time.

Without reading all of these pages is there a solution for my son?

He parks his car near school and some clowns recently have been mucking around with the cars. Relatively innocent stuff so far but of course no one ever sees them.

Is there a cheap motion activated dash cam he could simply rest of the dashboard when he is parked there?

The 0801 would be perfect for that situation. Would need to be wired to a permanent live though.
