They do get nicked, just depends how unlucky you are. Our Mobius' can't be seen by the rear view mirror unless you stick your head right against the window and even then it doesn't look like something valuable. I'd say with the DP200 use a marker pen on the silver lens surround and it'll be less noticeable.

Can this possibly be any good for just over £20?

It is Chinese and unbranded but is has a 1080P camera, motion sensing, loop recording, date&time, 2.5" fold down screen and comes with suction mount and cables etc.

Currently £21.24 with free delivery

Probably a bit crap, but people get really over-excited about dashcam quality anyway. As long as you can see who hit who then does it really matter?

Personally I'd pay the extra and get a small camera like the Mobius or one of the Mini range, that looks like a big chunk of plastic to have in the windscreen.

It looks a lot like the one my Dad has - aside from his penchant for making it speak Chinese and messing up the menus into a different language it seems to do the basics OK. I haven't looked at any footage on a PC but the stuff on the screen seems acceptable enough.

I've had my road hawk HD for 18 months or so now but I'm changing my car so I've pulled it out. Before I install it in my new car is there anything else better out there now?

The road hawk has been ok but it doesn't switch on every time, I sometimes have to unplug it and plug it in again, I don't remember to do this every time so it doesn't record.

Size is a factor to me as my new car has a massive block behind the rear view mirror for lane assist.

I have a roadhawk (non HD) in one of my cars and when I got my 2nd car, I wanted a dashcam for that one as well.
I ended up buying both the mobius and the mini 806. The problem I found with the mobius is that whilst it is small, it is small in width and not length and therefore does not fit neatly behind the rear view mirror (poor mount). If the lens was on the side, the it would be perfect, but alas it is on the long end.
I am therefore using the mini 806 as it fits quite nicely. The mobius does not have gps or a g-sensor. I have now attached this to the rear windows in order to see how bad my car was really smoking when I was not looking in the rear view mirror. I may leave it there or I might put it in the other half's car.
I have had about 4 years use out of the roadhawk and I think it is on it's last legs. It seems to reboot every now and again.

Cheers mate, the 806 looks good and is very small. I'm not worried about GPS and G sensor, I was when I bought this one but I really just want the smallest footprint.

I will wait until I get the car then I will review options then.

I've seen cases that put the lens on the side - think they're GoPro sized.

I'm a bit new to this dash cam malarkey so have been doing a bit of research and reading this thread. My O/H had a very intimidating driver cutting her up recently, so I thought we should consider investing in a couple of dash cams in the cars without spending a fortune.

The Mobius seems to get good press on here, and looking at Banggood as mentioned by Klippie (thanks!) with the discount code I can pick up the whole lot I need (minus the SD card) for about £58, or I could just get the Mobius from there and the the other bits from Amazon/eBay. Some of the stuff looks like it comes from the EU and some from China (e.g. Capacitor), so presume this will take longer.

The bits I think I need for in-car fitting are:

Mobius Camera with C2 wide angle lens
Suction mount holder
3m charging cable
Super capacitor
USB car adaptor 12V-5V
SD Card - either 32gb or 64gb

So with a 32GB SD card the whole lot should be under £70.

The alternative is something like the Transcend DrivePro 200 which has everything in one box with a 2 year guarantee and is probably more wife friendly. It also has a screen and wifi with phone app, though I'm guessing that's a bit of a gimmick. It can be had on Amazon for £85 with a 16GB SD card, though if I bought the suction mount and a 32GB card it would be around £100.

I suppose my question is, is it worth paying a little extra for the Transcend, or will the Mobius be just as good and cheaper?
Mobius is a great choice for its form factor, image quality and all parts are available to buy not to mention the price.

Instead of the suction mount order the helmet mount it's has a much smaller profile when modified ( basically trim off all the strap bits ) plus it's made up from two halves so it can be easily removed.

I've been wanting a dash cam for a bit, but the seemingly random quality of cameras put me off but I spotted one recently that I thought looked good, the Thinkware F750, its been in the car since the weekend and its spot on.
Only problems so far have been the dash cam viewer software doesn't work on my computer (a Mac even though the website shows the software running on an iMac) the phone app works well and I can do anything that the computer software does on that so its not too much of a problem.
I've bought a second one for the other car too.

Was looking at the F750 last week, gets good reviews. Am I right in thinking for the parking mode to work you must use the hardwire kit?

I'm not familiar with the Thinkware F750 but wonder whether you could eject the card and then copy the relevant files onto your Mac, if you can do that then perhaps view the video footage using VLC which is what I use on my Macbook pro, incidentally what is the file type being used?

+1

The Mobius is an excellent and extremely reliable camera, I'm currently using mine with a 128GB Sandisk card without any problems whatsoever. I purchased mine direct from the manufacturer via their Ebay shop. Delivery took 7 days from Hong Kong.

Yes, I can remove the card and put it into the supplied card reader or usb reader and just transfer them direct to the computer, the file format is MP4.

This looks funky, not sure if I'm brave enough to go for a kickstarter though.

Kinda already exists though: http://lukashd.com/dashcam/product_info/blackbox_7...

I used to have a 7900 ARA, and although it is a good cam, it suffered (or mine did anyway) with iffy edge enhancing, making everything look a bit fake.

The OBD module only works on a small subset of cars too.

Just bought myself a Transcend drivepro 200 after looking around for a dashcam for the past few weeks. Decided on the Transcend after all the praise Autoexpress give it.

First impressions are very good. Was very easy to set up, even the Wi-Fi feature which means it can connect with my phone. Where I then can change the settings, watch a live stream and review any footage. Night time quality is also very good.
