Well you think "I'm in the right and can prove it!" so may not take the avoiding action you would normally. Thus, crashing more is likely. Like them knobber cyclists all over youtube with cameras stuck to their heads.LoonR1 said:

If the police believe it contains evidence of a crime being committed, then i think the answer is "Yes". So if it's running, and you're speeding and you have a prang which plod turn up to then if they notice the camera then I'd expect they'd have it away before you could delete it.Jakg said:

Anything that sticks out is a temptation to a thief. Priority for me is minimum on show, also not having to set it up each time. Permanently wired with a rolling memory too...CoolHands said:

I wonder how much of that will go on. If you knew there was something with your car, or you just wanted to get rid of it and get the insurance money it would be extremely easy to go out with one of these cameras and get yourself involved in a collision that was going to appear on camera to be completely the other parties fault.Eighteeteewhy said:

as a hgv driver there is so many motorists on the road this day and age i persnoaly got it for my own saftey and should there be a incident that i am not at fault this should give me a clear proof that would stand up in court i belive .
i didnt pay vast amount for it memory serves me correct around 60quid and memory is saved on a sd card

I have a DoD F520 from Taiwan, cracking camera, with reg plates quite easily readable. (Struggles on low light cloudy days though)
However, can't leave it wired in permanently because of car break ins around here being very common, so it's a PITA to get out everytime. It does remember your settings though and as soon as you plug the cigarette lighter power cable in, it switches on and records automatically. (It does have battery too).
If your SD card gets full, it just goes back to the beginning and overwrites earlier files. You can save in 30sec or 1,5,10 and 15 minutes intervals.

My Blackvue stays in the car all the time. It's tucked up behind the rear-view mirror (neither driver or passenger can see it from a normal seating position) and the cable runs up the headlining and down the A-pillar. It really isn't noticeable from the outside unless you're specifically looking for it - so many cars have GPS aerials or rain sensors there these days. Precisely no-one has spotted or commented on it yet.The car mostly lives on the street in North London. I like to think that if some scrote did notice it they might think it was a wired-up bait car and leave it alone. And how much of a (black) market is there for these things? It's not like when satnav theft (and before that, CD players, etc) was all the rage when they were expensive, desirable and relatively rare.

I would be wary of using that line of thought.... I won't notice it in your car as I'm walking past. But you don't need to worry about me seeing it as I'm not going to put your window in to steal something. The people you need to worry about are the ones that are specifically looking for stuff like that.sjg said:

A half decent camera will cost more than an average tom tom.... you have more faith in the general public than I do if you think they won't steal one if they know its there.Being in the security/CCTV industry, I've seen a lot of these in car camera/data recorders at the security exhibitions, they Chinese ones are all about the same quality, fairly good, but personally, I've been looking at the smart witness ones for our vans.....

After seeing 100+ on display, that had the best quality recording, the camera lens had a very wide angle with the least distortion to the edges of the picture. Obviously not as cheap as the Chinese ones.
