Does anyone else feel the whole dash camera thing is just a step too far. How many cameras are we going to have to "protect" ourself?
CCTV I can understand on a business premises or maybe even house. At a push on main streets in city centres but we have them EVERYWHERE now.
Its went a bit too far really considering they can be hacked into so easily.
We have idiots now using it to film people picking their nose while they drive.
The more I see this the more I move further into the countryside.
I was shunted into a range rover by a girl in a Ka at the approach to a roundabout. The Range Rover driver was claiming he felt two shunts and that I hit him first, before the girl hit me. It took over 6 months to get the claim sorted out, and made it more awkward to get insurance for another vehicle in the interim as the claim was unresolved. Had I had video evidence, then it could have been sorted out SO much quicker.CCTV I can understand on a business premises or maybe even house. It's been a rather expensive few months but I'm keen to get a dash cam.
Think I'll be going for one of these, reviews seem favourable. Plus it'll take up to a 128gb card.

Wait till some clown breaks hard in front of you, then reverses into your car and claims you ran into him and claims on your insurance policy for whiplash and I think you might have a change of heart. Perhaps just a scrape in the local supermarket or someone keying your car and walking off, the possibilities are endless for what these cameras can catch on cam and can prove beyond reasonable doubt as to who was at fault.CCTV I can understand on a business premises or maybe even house. Go to YouTube and search the term 'Russian Dash Cam' and you may well appreciate that there really are some very stupid examples of driving that you really wouldn't believe if they hadn't been caught on camera.
I've been driving for well over 30 years and just wish I could have recorded some of the more stupid examples. Aside from which the cameras re-record over the original footage after a short time unless some incident happens and the driver decides to store the footage.
I'm actually in favour of CCTV systems keeping the footage for several months before being over-written because in the event that some burglary does happen, the footage can be closely examined and perhaps may lead to an arrest. Imagine if your child was abducted and a dash cam from one or more cars had caught the perpetrator dragging your child away on video. Imagine if your house has been burgled and the police request dash cam video footage to check the vehicles and people in the area. This technology has massive potential to catch the criminals. It's a bit like Google StreetView but scaled up several thousand times.
I paid approx £45 to Amazon for my Dash Cam and I've been thoroughly impressed with it. Apart from the TomTom Sat Nav, it's probably the best thing I've fitted in my car.

There is an element of people that after fitting a dash cam become self-appointed reviewers of everyone's driving and feel the need to post numerous video clips showing the kind of driving we all see on the roads on a daily basis, the kind of driving that would normally produce a "tut" or a "Look at that d*ck" kind of response before being instantly forgotten.CCTV I can understand on a business premises or maybe even house. Maybe its a form of passive aggressive road rage?
Anyhow I had to stop myself becoming this kind of person, I bought a camera for my Skyline after having a few near misses from local chavs who felt the need to demonstrate the raw power of their 1.0 Corsa's and nearly took me out in reckless overtakes
But you arent safe anywhere because I live in the countryside;)

Hi, Does anyone have any photos of dash cameras mounted in cars around the rear view mirror? I cant seem to find any taken from outside the car showing it.
Thanks.
One of the Techmoan videos shows the Mobius with the extension cable lens, the camera box is up on the roof lining and the cable / lens is taped down the mirror. Quite a lot of effort but I guess invisible from outside.Thanks.
I got an 0803 with hardwire kit and it all works pretty well. The low voltage cut off works fine (tested on bench power supply). Quality is great.
The motion detect isn't anywhere near sensitive enough though. You could walk up the bonnet onto the roof and it wouldn't record a thing.
Is this a known issue? Is there a catalogue of available firmwares?

A few months ago I bought a GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition. Great quality, perfect for capturing idiot drivers over here (China). I just want to get the add on screen for it as it doesn't come with it.

Don't just take my word for it, watch the Techmoan YouTube video reviews of the 0801 and 0803. Ought to mention that I have also in the past purchased far more expensive dash cams, and though they have been good in terms of video quality, the far cheaper 0801 and 0803 dash cams offer superior video quality for a lot less money.
The main thing to pay attention to is the micro SD card, I would recommend 32GB for either model, perhaps class 4 for the non GPS 0801 and class 6 for the GPS 0801, and faster SD cards for the 0803 especially if you opt for the GPS 0803 which may well need a class 10 32GB Micro SD card due to the huge amount of raw data being dumped on it by the dash cam.
And note despite users complaining of problems with large SD cards causing grief in the 0801 I have had no problems whatsoever with fitting a fast SanDisk Ultra 128GB class 10 in my 0801, well except it only recognised 24.77GB so the rest of the space was redundant. Just buy a 32GB.
Don't delete the files or format the card on your computer or the card might be corrupted - always format the SD card when fitted into the dash cam.
I have no regrets over the purchase of the 0801, is very compact so sits discreetly behind the rear view mirror, is easy to set up (after you watch the techmoan video), offers high quality 1080p video which can be copied easily to your mac or PC by ejecting the micro SD card.

BMW sitting clearly out of regular position, indicator on well in advance. Where exactly was he going to go?
In the people carrier I would have held back.

I don't know that junction but it looks like one of those oddballs with a huge roundabout with a road through the middle. If you want to go back you go all the way round and join on a slip. Was there a no u-turn sign?
If not then should have held back. Surprise Space Speed.
