Last week I bought the NextBase InCarCam 101 from Halfords http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/in-car-camer... and I'm having trouble with playing the videos back

Plug it I to my laptop, and playing through WMP it crashes the player. I downloaded VLC and it works without crashing the player, however it stutters and skips. I presumed it was my laptop, as it's not the newest, so played it through my TV. This times its in sort of slow motion. I then tried it on a new desktop PC, it crashed WMP, then against stuttered played through VLC!

However, if I playback via the camera, watching the screen, it's fine? I've reformatted the 16gb memory card, and there are no options on the camera for frame rate etc.

Should I just return it and try something else? I paid £45

Have you got another SD card to try, just to rule out everything but the camera.

Also, are you playing the footage back through the camera with a usb lead or using a card reader?

I have bought a 128gb card to fit into my 0806 when it arrives.

It should do the job I think.

Sorry to hear you're suffering grief, and it may well be the dash cam that is faulty, but before you return it, can I ask the following questions.

Seems a bit expensive for 720p when there are other cheaper dash cams on the market (like the 0801) which provide higher quality 1080p resolution.

The only time I have heard of stutters and skips in footage is when the SD card isn't fast enough to keep pace with the volume of data being written to it by the camera, but you say that the footage replays just fine.

Actually, sometimes an SD card that is 'too fast' can cause incompatibilities with the dash cam, so perhaps you could try a few different types, perhaps class 4, class 6 and class 10 to see if this resolves the problem.

What file format are the video files being saved as?

For info my 0801 writes approx 100MB per minute at 1080p so would expect the file sizes to be less per minute on your 720p dash cam.

Perhaps upload a one minute random video clip onto mega.co.nz and provide the link to download the video file.

One other thing to check, and that is that the power supply isn't faulty - I had a defective cable which caused me and my resident auto electrician a lot of grief until he noticed the LED on the power-supply to the dash cam was flashing on and off on a random basis!

Which class card did you opt for, 6 or 10?

Are you guys hard wiring them in, so they're always on or are you just plugging them in to the cigarette lighter - sorry accessory socket - every time?

...and where from/how much out of interest? The cheapest I've found is a Class 10 128Gb for £85 at the moment.

Mine is hard wired into the fuse box so I can still use the accessory socket for other things.

I have two additional sockets in my glovebox and have run down the A-pillar into one of those.

I have 2 at home at present. The yellow S2000 is a bit of a cry baby, so doesn't go out in the rain by choice. Thus it usually goes out roof down. It also rarely goes out when it is over about 100F, as the owner is a bit of a cry baby when it gets that hot.

The blue one is the Oz built Ford, or US Mercery Capri, & is used as a shopping trolley, or when it rains. It's hood rarely goes down.

It is also my guests car, for visitors or the kids when they are home. This is about the only time it's roof goes down, when they go for a day at the beach.

The TR8 is coming home next month. It rarely gets it hood up, as it never goes out if it looks like rain, other than on the odd interstate trip. The last time it took 3 of us, & the ladies hair driver to stretch it into place, after 2 years down.

I'm not into tin tops. Neither of the Brabhams had rooves, & they were more fun than any tin top.

Don't be absurd, neither of those would mount effectively to the windscreen.

Ah, I'd never buy a memory card of any sort on eBay, fraud is rife! I'll stick to buying from retailers I know and trust. smile

Indeed - I have 2 of the e-prance cameras, one in front of the rear view mirror and one in the rear at the top of the screen. The rear one works fine through the tinted glass too.

Mine arent hardwired in so let me know how you get on with picking up a power feed for yours and I might do that upgrade thumbup

After messing with some first generation cams about 2 years ago and being less than impressed, ive just taken the plunge with an 0801.

£47 delivered from Amazon with a 32gb miniSD card. Would be rude not to at that price. Ive also ordered one of the 'hard-wiring' kits from the mentioned eBAY seller for £14.

smile
Can you provide a link?
I'm just about to pull the trigger on the 0801 + card.

Thanks
