On the subject - I purchased myself one of the £25 ebay 'HD' jobbies - surprisingly good - not hardwired or anything but picks up a fairly decent pic.

Only really suitable for the odd fun day trip etc, but I suppose its better than nothing.

Would probably look to upgrade it in the next year when I purchase myself a new car etc.

Thanks

I have bought a 128gb card to fit into my 0806 when it arrives.

It should do the job I think.
Which class card did you opt for, 6 or 10?
Take your pick on Ebay?
I was curious on what speed card you went for as some cameras don't get on with the class 10 cards.

A friend has just given me £50 in Amazon vouchers so I've pushed the button on an 0801. Should be here soon, and I'll order the hardwire kit from eBay to enable it to be fitted discreetly.

I'll post up on here with some detail of how I get on with it. Thanks for the recommendations.

Hi guys. I've just read this whole thread! I've been looking at a dash cam and narrowed it down to a possible 2/3 cameras. What are your opinions on the Nextbase 302/402 range as they can give 10 to 12.5% insurance reductions or should I stick with the PH massive and go with the 0801/2/5/6 range?

I've done exactly the same, to go in my S2000. It will be interesting to compare it with my other setup in my daily driver Golf, a MiWitness, which has front and rear cameras and is hard-wired through a gizmo which is supposed to protect the battery by monitoring and cutting the camera power if the car's parked up for a long time and the battery voltage drops below 11.8 volts.

The 0805 will just be plugged into the lighter socket when I remember.

I got my SJ4000. Had a brief outing on the mountain bike with my wee girl and the quality is pretty good. I've watched some youtube vids though that as saying don't whack all the settings to max but instead sort it so that its working with the hardware available.

Standby for samples. But i'm impressed.

Well folks I am very pleased to be able to update this sorry tale!!

We received a call today from our insurers who advise that the other side have agreed that their driver was at fault and that the claim lies with them. However, to add a further twist to the story, the other driver had a clause in his policy that stated if he was to cause an accident deliberately then his insurance would be deemed void. His insurers have decided this was the case and have now revoked his insurance and are taking steps to recover the amount he claimed for the repair to his own car. This will also mean he must state that he has been refused insurance on all future renewals.

In the case of our damage we have full legal cover so our car will be repaired by our insurers who will presumably take a legal route to reclaiming the sum from him personally.

Quite a result and goes to show the value in having cars fitted with cameras!!!

My wife is also delighted as her renewal is the 12th Jan and this was hanging over her with a sizeable premium increase as it was unresolved.

Phew.

I've received my 0801 today.

Can someone tell me how to set it to record on start up?
It'll be plugged into the fag lighter in the car.

Thanks,

Very interesting outcome, and a good result for you. Like you, I have a dashcam for exactly this reason.
I'm not surprised the other party's insurer blamed the driver because it allows them to avoid any costs themselves. I've not heard of a clause like this before, but it's interesting to see that they exist. Who's the other party's insurer?

I haven't spoken about the other side's insurer for some time but I seem to recall it being Swift Cover.

Thanks,
From reading the 'Engrish' instructions it should record on power up, but i'm having to click the 'OK' button for it to start?

Once you have plugged it into the cigarette lighter it should automatically power up and start recording once you start the car and power is fed to the dash cam, on mine there is a small LED on the actual adapter which lights up blue to show it is powered. there should be no need to go into the menu unless of course you are tinkering with the settings whilst still indoors. It is literally fit and forget.

Not sure if you have seen the TechMoan video which explains everything very clearly, and certainly better than the 'Engrish' instruction manual, link to the video review of the 0801 is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdPHXv8Hzj8

Incidentally, if you ever want to remove the camera mount from the windscreen the best thing to use is the cheap dental floss and just saw through the adhesive between the mount and the glass then clean the remaining adhesive off - don't use a screwdriver or plain brute force because you will either crack the screen or break the mount - TechMoan produced a video tutorial to demonstrate how to remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1bOM8IJOfI

Just set it on "Loop" mode, which is the default, I think. It will power up and start recording when the lighter socket gets power on ignition.
