Hi.
I have added a few posts to this thread as I have been umming and ahhing whether to get an 806 or an 805. Like a lot on here, the 806 seemed to be 'the one' on paper, but the reality appears to be somewhat different..!
Now this is my 'current favorite' - anyone got anything good or bad to say about the Blackvue DR600GW HD. It's A LOT more than the other 2, but I like the idea behind the smartphone app (although in some reviews it seems that the download time is very s l o w ....)
Cheers
I would save your money!!!

If it's any help I purchased a Blackvue DR500GW-HD back in 2013 which was not only very expensive but the video quality wasn't a patch on the far cheaper 0801. Might be an idea to wait until TechMoan has tested the Blackvue DR600GW HD and posted a review on YouTube.

If the majority of your driving is in the daytime then save your money and buy an 0801 from Amazon until the initial manufacturing problems of the 0806 are sorted out. I've posted a few download links on this thread for video clips if you are interested.

As for the smartphone app which sounds fantastic, after a few weeks of driving you kind of forget about the dash camera recording everything, and in the event something happens you can always eject the card and copy the files to your computer which doesn't take a lot of effort.

Might be an idea to take a look at the Mobius camera which does receive some astonishingly good reviews. I have one on order so will be able to provide some video footage once it arrives.

Food for thought - at less than £50 from Amazon for an 0801 dash cam with a 32GB card (including delivery) I am well chuffed. What is there not too like?

Anyone else noticed when you're driving one and someone sees you with one they slow down?
On the way to Birmingham centre recently everyone treated me like I was a Police Officer...kind of odd
Not noticed this, but I'd imagine you'd need exceptional eyesight to spot my camera in your rear view mirror.
Mine has a flashing red light so I think it might be that.

Many thanks for your detailed reply, rich....
I didn't really want to spend £200 ish on a cam that hasn't got great video quality.
Cheers

Generally yes, some people hardwire them but they will need a 12v power source.

Yep. Wires are generally tucked under roof linings and bits of trim the same as if you had an aftermarket bluetooth thingy fitted.

Don't go hard wiring it in without a converter! Most I've seen are USB powered, so 5v.

But do bear in mind the cameras themselves are 5 volt.

Did you go for this?

It looks like the kind of thing I'm looking for, for the same reasons as you.
I went with the SJCAM SJ4000 Wifi with "gift pack" in the end - I prefer the look of the M10 but decided the Wifi option would be handy. Might also get a higher capacity battery pack from Anker, a Tri Bag for it to go in and mount the camera on the bars instead of helmet.

Got a while to make a decision while I wait for it to arrive from China.....

On a different subject, I've been looking at the Mobius video camera and just wonder if anyone on here can recommend a UK seller. The ebay seller recommended by Techmoan is based in China who quotes a very long delivery time. Also, has anyone purchased the additional kit with all the different mounts and cables included?
www.joovuu.com
Excellent, thank you for the info.
Very strange, was viewing the website www.joovuu.com yesterday just fine, but today when I tried viewing the site to possibly place an order it just came up as an empty white page. Can anyone else view the site?
Offline for maintenance it says.
Not very impressed, the site came back online a few days ago so I placed an order with JooVuu. The Mobius car kit was showing as 'in stock' so I placed the order. The following day received an email telling me the items were out-of-stock and were on backorder. I've now cancelled the order and am awaiting confirmation from them. Is somewhat worrying that they don't provide a phone number or contact address apart from a PO box number and their website registration details are hidden.

To anyone interested in dash cams take a look at 'Car Crash Britain' tonight (Thur 12th Feb) at 9pm on ITV, which shows a selection of video recordings of crashes and near-misses recorded on dash cams in cars, lorries and bikes.

If you've been considering buying a dash cam I think you will be placing the order soon after watching this programme.

I've renewed my insurance today (went with Flux) and during the chat mentioned I had front and rear cameras in the car. The guy went away, came back and said that it's knocked a bit more off the quote, so for those running cameras or those thinking of buying them - it's definitely worth mentioning them to your insurer.

Wonder if someone could come up with a way of putting this kind of thing on the internet so that people could watch it online.

Depends how much it knocks off, for a few quid I'm not sure it's worth saying you have it, as the risk is that you have a crash and then can't produce the video for whatever reason and then the claim gets a bit more awkward than perhaps it might have been.

True, I guess it's up to the individual if they declare them or not in that respect.

If you mean this particular programme then there is https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/ which can be viewed online, alternatively do a search on YouTube because there are thousands of dash cam videos uploaded. As an example, type in 'Russian dash cam' to watch some really shockingly poor examples of driving!

Nothing on that list actually, a Lukas ARA and a cheapo ebay 720p rear cam.

Thanks for the info regarding fitting a dash cam and a reduction with your insurance quote. It never crossed my mind to mention this previously, so when my renewal comes up will ask the question.
