Easy answer...Mobius, costs around £50, its tiny, you can buy a low profile removable mount, it's ultra reliable and has unrivalled support plus superb image quality.

I have mine wired into the car to record while at work, 64gb card gives around 10 hours recording at 30fps 1080p medium bit rate.

Please check out the Mobius before you buy anything.

How do you prevent it running the battery down?

Thanks for the pics guys. Any more?

I have a 0804 or something like that, but it is hard to position without giving the game away being in eye line of me / gf.

It's a non issue...the camera pulls only around 300-400milliamps when recording which is a minute fraction of the cars battery capacity.

I have front and rear cameras which were accidentally left running for a weekend and the car started just as normal.

It draws around 400ma/h, average car battery can do 45a/h so you should be good for more than a few days.

I've fitted mine in two cars so far, one is quite inconspicuous, one... not so.
Both photos were in the garage and very well lit so making them very noticeable.
I'm going to reposition the one in the M4 so it wont be that bad for long.
I've just bought some 3M VHB tape to use on my F750 mount, hopefully it will make it a little less noticeable.

Also need to relocate the rear camera to an area which is swept by the rear wiper.

I bought some from ebay, I think I'll try moving the front camera to the side of the mirror and into the darkened area so the lens just comes past the edge.

Right gentleman.

So after the 4th time of someone hitting my parked car and not leaving a note. I'm in need of a good camera that's only use is going to be for when I'm parked up. Not to bothered about when driving, just want a good one that can record for 8 hours whilst I'm away from the car at work.

Anyone got something they can direct me too?

If you want to record whilst the car is parked up at work then perhaps the easiest option is to buy an external battery pack from Amazon and put it in your glove box, this way you can plug the camera in the morning, switch on the battery pack and the Mobius (if set to ON when power is received) will start recording, then switch off when you arrive home. No messing about with hard-wiring smile

Alternatively hardwire the car in using a dashcam hardwire kit, then if you want to record continuously either fit to a constant live (drawback it will record all the time and eventually flatten the battery, or fit an ON/OFF switch so you can choose when to record. Find a local mobile auto electrician if you don't know how to do this.

I've used several dashcams over the years, including some mighty expensive ones, and have to say that the Mobius beats most of them especially in terms of reliability and video quality. Yes there are better video quality cameras out there with larger marketing budgets, but they do cost an awful lot more money, and are probably not as reliable.

The Mobius comes fitted as standard with a battery which lasts for approx 2 hours, but if you intend to use it in the car for eight hours at a time then perhaps change the battery for a the super-capacitor. Have to say that it's very easy to change components in the Mobius thanks to the thoughtful developers who were looking for long term reliability when they designed it. If you order from the official shop shown below then ask them to supply one in addition to the battery. Note the super capacitor cannot be used without a power source, it's not a battery.

The Mobius manufacturer has a shop on Ebay, link is: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/eletoponline365/Mobius-Ac... just remember it's an 'action camera' so you will need to purchase a suction or permanent windscreen mount, a 3 metre charging cable, and a universal mini USB car charger (if you want to charge off the cigarette lighter). Note that they also sell a Mobius fitted with a 32GB card.

I purchased an USB 12000 mAH external battery pack (sometimes called a power bank) from Amazon which cost less than £15, along with a 64GB Kingston card and a 128GB Sandisk card, all of which have performed brilliantly to date - just make sure you buy the SD cards 'Supplied AND fulfilled by Amazon' to ensure you don't buy a fake.

In terms of memory usage, if the Mobius is set to its maximum resolution, a 3 minute video clip will use approx 415MB, so a 64GB card will record for 463 minutes (8 hours = 480mins) before looping round and over-writing the oldest footage. This is the reason I purchased a 128GB card.

One more thing, being an 'action cam' it's not confined to the windscreen and can be used outside of the car if used with its battery, perhaps on a helmet for biking or skiing.

Or just fit one of these

or

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151363865175?clk_rvr_id=...

with low voltage protection so it draws permanent power to the dash cam unless the battery gets to a point at which starting the car might be a problem and then cuts power to the DVR.

0806 with cpl still running great here, sharp and audio quality is excellent. Can't say fairer for the cost, especially with the 24Mbits firmware installed.

JooVuu-X looks interesting here, like a Mobius on steroids.
The JooVuu dashcam actioncam ought to be a little better considering how much newer the design is, and how much more expensive it costs!

The Mobius action cam has been on the market for several years now so is well tried and tested, and the manufacturer has consistently tweaked the components, the software and the lens design over this time period to steadily improve the performance, reliability and the video quality.

Rumour has it that a MK2 Mobius actioncam is due to be released sometime soon which should be very interesting indeed considering their excellent track record to date, and the fact that it may be installed with h.265 codec which will greatly increase the recording time compared to h.264 compression software being used by the current generation of dashcams and actioncams.

All that jazz

After installing one of my cameras with the white double sided tape, I went out and bought some black double tape as it was too conspicuous.

I want to do the same but am struggling in the usual places like ebay - where did you buy a small sheet of black double sided black spongy tape?

Exactly what I did! Two parallel strips (or more). For interior stickiness I use No More Nails Double Sided Tape - the non removable one with red tape on it (which can be removed with a little difficulty).

So it's a non-foam type normal double-sided tape?

Yep. Non-foam. I think in Halfords it's Trim fixing tape for around £5.

Sounds promising but just because the Mobius was good it doesn't necessarily follow the Mk2 will be, time will tell. Main issue is the footprint isn't great for a front cam, they should put the lens on the side or even separate it from the recorder.

Car manufacturers should build a standard sized slot (with power) into rear view mirrors for dashcams, but it'll only happen if people start demanding it.
The manufacturer of the Mobius camera has from day one worked very hard to provide a rock solid reliable camera and to ensure that all components can be replaced and improved as and when required, they have invested as little as possible in expensive marketing and has instead relied on word of mouth reputation to sell their products.

I have no doubts whatsoever that the Mobius MK2 will exceed the original specifications in all respects.

As regard to the footprint of the Mobius camera when viewed from the front I doubt that any dashcam is smaller including the Mini 0801 and 0806 which are regarded by many to be one of the smallest dashcams on the market today. I own and use an 0801, 0806 and Mobius so think I can make valid points on the above.

Now if Mobius released a small windscreen mount to save the rest of us from modifying the smaller helmet mount for use on the windscreen then that would really be fantastic.

In terms of who to buy from, Mobius has over the past few years earned an excellent reputation for sales, service and aftercare, in stark contrast, and being as I'm not allowed to say on PH who has a shockingly poor reputation for sales or aftercare, I'm going to say nothing about JooVuu.
