True enough I concede. Although most RRC's aren't Brooklands ones.

Any excuse for a pic! Mine biggrin

Just awoken after slumbering through the "summer". Reconnected battery and started first turn of the key.

I'll tempt fate by saying that in the last 15 months or so that I have owned it, other than the back box making a bid for freedom, nothing has broken or stopped working permanently.. wink

I had a V8 Classic years ago and took it to an off road centre in Wales. All the other cars were Defenders and initially there were quite a few comments about us getting stuck as it's an auto, Rangies aren't as good off road, etc, etc. My Classic didn't get stuck once all day wading through mud up to the doors, etc (the same can't be said for all of the Landies however). They are brilliant cars off road but for some reason there does seem to be a bit of hate towards them from Defender owners.
I guess it depends what Defender owners. I think in terms of PH and "Jo Public" people often don't realise that under the body an RR and a Defender are surprisingly similar.

Chassis design is basically the same, axles are either the same or similar as are diffs and half shafts, engines can be similar, even the drivetrain (although RR's often used a viscous centre diff). Suspension is mostly the same too.

Auto's work well off road, but there are some stuffy stick in the mud Brits that still believe only a manual will work off road rolleyes

This is the sort thing I'm more used too in the off road scene:

This one is a chopped down early 1970's Range Rover with a Series body:

Disco is essentially a re-bodied Range Rover with an LT230 transfer case. Rest is the same as an RR

And believe it or not this one is a 2.5 BMW diesel p38a Range Rover! eek

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes the Brooklands kit.

The landed gentry look is some what sullied by the film Layer Cake, mid 90's drug dealers choice. May be things are full circle & its cool again. However they were murdered in countryside if that counts.

eek that just makes the SOTW an even bigger missed opportunity!

Obviously there are condition and mileage differences, but for 85% less........???

I am all for using classic cars in the way they were intended, but dear God, that looks like one of the first Rangeys off the production line!

As for this week's shed. I posted earlier in the week about Range Rover prices. I so want one and just do not have the space. I tell a lie, I do just not at my new house. The only space I have is at my other house but storing a 20 year old car, outdoors in Scotland on a cliff above a bay facing the prevailing wind, is going to turn it to dust in months.

What do do?

Most, in fact almost all Classics don't have air suspension. Slipped liners is not normally an issue with the 3.5/3.9 (and 4.2) RV8's. Thats much more of an issue with the newer 4.0 and 4.6 variants found in the p38a and D2.
All the LSE models had air suspension which is best described as unreliable and over complicated. It is a simple and inexpensive job to change to coils and doesn't make it handle any worse than being on air. The 4.2 was the worst engine for slipped liners but easy enough to stick a 3.9 into the engine bay it if it does happen though.

If I was getting another I would steer well clear of the LSE because of the above

I know the vendor of my old one has a fair bit of room on that price but the cars are unlikely to be comparable. i'd say you could very quickly spend the difference on shed to get the same result as that car

I saw a great quote about LR's during the week:

DON'T buy a landrover unless you have deep pockets and want your partner to think your having a fling with the recovery chap.

I had one - with LPG too

I would buy another - but not with LPG. The LPG system killed my engine, overheating, low lubricant and then head gasket. TBH i should of fixed it, but I sold it on to someone else who wanted a project. Shame as it was mint in all the other usual areas.

Great fun - BUY IT

Makes me miss mine frown 3.9 litres of rumbly goodness. I'd be tempted by another one, but I sadly haven't won the lottery yet and so cannot afford the petrol.

any body any ideas what sort of MPG you would get from this with the LPG?
ta!
MPG is meaningless in the context. You need price per mile. Assuming 15 mpg on unleaded then13/14 on LPG , a ten per cent drop, but LPG costs half the price of unleaded ! And if you own a farm and need LPG for heating then that costs 1/3 the price of unleaded, but that would be illegal so nobody would do it!!
