Great feedback again guys Yeti is fantastic but not really a Puma replacement I'm afraid. Lefty, ta muchly. A1 has not appeared on the radar and I doubt the A3 will cut it as Pops doesn't like them.

Well, if you're suggesting an RCZ, may as well throw the TT into the mix. Know which I'd rather have if had to suffer either.

RCZ has been mentioned too come to think of it but no room for 4 people
No 4x4 in the running
TT again no room in the back

Fabia cropped up in conversation yesterday as Mummy Loon is replacing the Puma but is unsure as what to go for. You could add to the list RS Twingo and the Swift Sport and if she likes the shape of the Puma the Renault wind (No laughing at the back I drove one a bit in Italy last year and it was actually a good steer if a bit impractical). ETA: Ignore the wind didn't realise back seats were needed.

This is a bit pricey IMO http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150913232056?ssPageName=...But it has now got me thinking I'd like to start improving my Puma culminating in a similarly engined car on standard wheels with a full interior. It would be like burning £20s in financial terms but I think I need a project and the thing is getting under my skin.

I saw a standard looking silver Puma the other day, slightly lowered and with a cage. Could be a cracking project car

Shortlist thus far includes;
Giulietta A3 Fiesta Zetec S (had Fords for years and is the obvious Puma replacement) Fabia VRS (friends of theirs had Octavia VRS for years and Mummy likes the drive) Mito 500 Abarth (boot too small by the looks of it though) Balmoral Green ( just 'Balmoral' now), had one and hates it. Yet loved his old gen one. He did a 'readers ride' on it too Its a common complaint from Fab owners. We loved our last gen one and then wondered wtf they did to the new gen one.

Fester Zetec S is a hoot and there's a fair chance my next demo will be one (that or a Focus Zetec S, but diesel). If she's looking at new, the facelift is imminent, so choices are built 1.6 120PS stock units or factory ordered (Jan delivery) 1.0 EcoBoost 120PS. There's a 180PS 1.6 EcoBoost ST on the way too, can't wait to play with that one. If used, then I might just have a few - as will Gandalf of course.

Shame, I really like the idea of the new Fabia VRS and seemed to tick a lot of the boxes.

Like the idea of the 1.0 ecoboost jobby It's a great little unit and does well in the Focus in 125PS guise. With a touch of Mountune and 150PS in the lighter Fiesta, it should be a right giggle. The benefits of the lighter engine than the old four pot are apparent enough in the Focus (it's much more pleasant a helm than the twice as grunty ST), so I think it'll be a belter.
