4 grand for an '02' E500 with fMBsh

To quote a popular soft drink:

How much could one flog those alloys for? I think that on standard wheels would be an utterly superb way to get about.

Ageless plate on it and have said it looks about £7500, god know's what the general public would go with.

Google "E500 glycol contamination" and do some light research before parting with cash would be my recommendation.

I do think the E500 of that generation looks great though, it needs those big wheels to *work* for me.

I saw an "N-reg" Jaaag XJ the other day. For 895 quid......I wonder how long it would last.

Surprisingly hardy old beasts.

Engine, 'box and back axle are very strong.

I'd agree on the wheel front. Merc's have a bad enough 'old man' image as it is!

Will check out the glycol stuff.

Eta: blimey, so it appears coolant gets into the transmission and causes it to fail. Bit duff, but that being a dealer surely you'd have comeback on a dead gearbox.

Will people stop posting cheap XJs. I'd find one utterly impractical and I'd look like a using one in this town but I've wanted one for years.

Do they not fall out on the M6?
That was an S-Type.

I wouldn't touch them with a stolen cock on the end of a 90ft pole.

Bought a 180k mile X300 4.0 LWB Sov just over three years ago for similar money. Ran it for a bit without a hiccough, sold it and it's still knocking around the place.

I wouldn't be as confident with an early X308 though.

I did google that exact phrase and this thread was the first result!

Agree on the wheels.

Maybe for the first couple of days. Beyond that, depends what sort of warranty you get.
