It's cos you're a car geek. I've just spent an evening in the boozer with an old pal chatting about the virtues of old cars v new ones, and old motoring related japes we got up to. Even the real ale crew at the bar thought we were strange. God knows what girls would think.DJRC said:
Do any of us actually have any examples of us doing the car buying thing right? We cant all just have "doh" stories, someone must have a success story surely?
I've worked out the only way I can't fail is to buy them at a price where they're disposable and therefore are the source of no stress.CampDavid said:

Buying sensible stuff I've done well. My GF had, until recently, a 20 mile a day commute. She had a new to her 5-7 year old car each year which I actually sold on for more than the purchasing and servicing cars. I managed a few of those (Peugeot 306 GTI, Astra diesel, Peugeot GTI again, Astra SRI) and have probably ended up a decent night out in profit for 4 years of motoring.Probably 70-80% of the cars I've bought have been winners, however, all the good work has been undone with my less skilled purchases (chiefly a Saxo VTS)

Ah, reminds of the joke about the Glaswegian getting off an aeroplane that's landed at home. There's a queue of people waiting to get off but he can't reach his bag in the overhead locker a couple of rows in front so he taps the woman in front of him and asks "Any chance of getting my holdall" and she turns around and knees him in the bks.Chrisw666 said:

But if I didn't do it very well it would be a bit of an issue wouldn't it!
I bet your cars are more expensive than ones advertised on ebay and located on a caravan site, and you probably want to pay under retail for part ex cars. You're all theives But if I didn't do it very well it would be a bit of an issue wouldn't it!

Good work! However, I'm jealous of the garage - looks lovely. Did you make it yourself?
Would have been rude not to incorporate a nifty little king post truss arrangement strong enough to hoist a Caterham up into the rafters on a pulley system, with space for 3 other cars underneath. For if (when) I ever get round to owning one like..

Treble man points awarded Double for the pulley system and extra for not owning the car you've made space for.

Woop woop new (boring) car day.
Made only slightly less boring by having the Focus ST 5 potter- a swift Bluefin should turn it into something fast rather than merely quick. It'll do the job I want it to, and do it very well.
It's not something I'd usually post in these hallowed pages, but at close to barge money, and a daft £3-4k cheaper than it's diesel equivalent, it just goes to highlight the smelly fuel mentality of Joseph Public, which in turn hammers down the prices of damned decent cars like this to next to bugger all.
Excellent work, what'll it remap to?Made only slightly less boring by having the Focus ST 5 potter- a swift Bluefin should turn it into something fast rather than merely quick. It'll do the job I want it to, and do it very well.

I also find myself very jealous of a nice garage these days.
I am officially getting old

I didn't know you could get these with the 5-pot! I'd be interested to know what real economy you get - the quoted figures (30mpg combined, 40mpg highway) look like cloud cuckoo land to me, especially as the smaller, lighter Focus ST isn't renowned for being especially parsimonious with the go-juice.Made only slightly less boring by having the Focus ST 5 potter- a swift Bluefin should turn it into something fast rather than merely quick. Not that this matters, given a) the noise and b) the fact that it'll take 20,000 miles before the diesel would make financial sense in any case!

Bonus half point for getting official approval from my beloved bread knife for a Superlight, as the extra lumbar required for a heavier Roadsport will be far too expensive..
