Was just talking to someone at work about my car. It's a 1990 MX5 which I use as for commuting to work and attacking back roads at weekends, they were amazed that a car of 22 year vintage was still working let alone being used on a daily basis. When they found out it had more than 100,000 miles on the clock they were blown away that an engine could last this long! rolleyes

To me a car from 1990 is not old really, but it got me thinking, who's got the oldest car they use as a daily? Not a ground breaking topic but it is a Monday morning and it beats work. I'll start

1990 - Mazda MX5 (Eunos) - 105,000 miles.

Daihatsu Fourtrak - 1986 - 481000km

ETA: In fairness I do own other cars, but the Daihatsu is the one I use to potter about every day.

1970 Volvo Amazon.

1990 Sierra XR4x4.

Both used daily in all weathers – they live outside as I don’t have a garage.

The Sierra is off the road at the moment (awaiting a windscreen wiper switch) so I drove the Amazon in to work today.

It amazes and annoys me that the general public think that a car is worn out after 10 years/100k miles... if you look after them; they’ll last as long as you!

Is it a fashion thing or are people just ignorant and/or stupid?

Sprints off to the Post Office to re tax Eunos Immediately!!!

LOL! Only reason for sorning is that I'm stripping the seats out to have them recovered in leather & the car is getting treated to a full respray so its going to be off road for a couple of months at least. Its rot free (yes really), but being red various panels have started to change colour. As soon as its done it will be retaxed.

Can the red card be at least be downgraded to a yellow?? hehe

Shhhh, if people start realising this simple fact we will have to pay more for our second hand bargains. Personally, I think we should perpetuate the notion for monetary gain.

I know a chap who runs a tax exempt MGB as daily, at one stage about 10 years ago it was a magazine feature car which had undergone a full restoration but the owner refuses to pamper it too much and focusses on driving it instead!

A yellow card will be considered if you post some pics in the MX5 section so I can see the leather retrim. Silly thing to say really, if I see it I'll no doubt have to fire up the man maths calculator to explain to the missus why leather seats will save us money.

So you've got a pink Eunos at the moment? Balls of steel my friend, I thought mine in Marina Blue was pushing it. tongue out

For a while I was happily running around in either my 1989 or 1991 Peugeot. And in the not too distant past had to use the rally car (1987 Peugeot) as my daily when the sensible car was off the road.

23 year old Fiat Uno 45 but it had only done 24,000 as it was owned by a little old schoolteacher. One or two rust patches have started as I only live 100yards from the sea.
