the F-type weighs to much and so ends the story for me.

fabulous

but it does baffle me that some people want it to look like an older jag.. why ??, they get criticised for looking like an older design and criticised if they do something a bit different!

Clearly its a hell of a lot more car than boxster or m3. The looks alone make a porsche look pretty dull to my eyes

Nice - but I don't feel the same way about it that I did when the Alfa 8C arrived. My view is that stylists are putting too many gash's slats and slits on cars and focusing on nicely blended lines and shut lines.
Funny you should mention the 8C, that was my first thought when I opened the page from a link sent by a friend!

I just hate that front bumper, rest of the car is stunning, agree on the other point, too expensive!

Far far far too expensive. Knock £20K off and I would start to look at a massively depretiating car like Jag builds. Until then I'll stick with M series and Porsches...
Interesting comment, fact that you now can buy a mid mileage 996 Turbo for less then £20k (new £80k+) suggests a car that depreciates as fast as it can accelarate.. Even my freinds C4 997 cabrio tip tronic, cost nearly £100k 2 years back, with 13k on the clock he's only being offered £40k... thats a massive 60% lost in less then 2 years...

Whereas the XF and XJ seem to be holding their value far better then equivilent Beemers et al and even the XKR new shape, seem to be commanding slightly more then a similarly priced (when new) 997 C2, so it seems that the German strong hold on depreciation is nothing but a salesmans cliche.

Why? The car is almost certainly a better dynamic performer than you are a driver, so what exactly do you think the extra weight would prevent you from doing?

Anyone who thinks that 80k is too much because a 320bhp Porsche launched in 2005 is 20k less is missing the point. The Jag is stunning, new and over 50% more powerful! And as for that Coupe... wow, that's all.

I agree that is too much money, not necessarily compared with its rivals but more for the fact that I can't afford one!! In few years though, a manual (they better do one!) F-Type R Coupe could make a nice 2nd hand buy. And totally agree with regards to depreciation, no different to a 911 from what I can see (GT3's etc. excepted), my old man has a December 2006 4.2 Supercharged XKR Convertible, he paid a smidge under £80k and it now has nearly 90,000 miles on and is worth around £20-22k, OK, £10k/year is horrendous but he's had 90,000 trouble free miles and he's loved it so there's the justification.

Have to agree with Cyrus1971. It's in the same price range as the better-looking XK, for which it offers internal competition. I thought Jaguar were supposed to be making a Boxter / SLK / Cayman competitor. Too expensive & too heavy I'm afraid...
You thought wrong then didn't you... Jaguar have always said the F-Type sits BETWEEN the Boxster/Cayman and 911. I can't agree the XK looks better but that's subjective. I'm a little surprised the price and weight are a bit inflated but it'll sell. We know why the Boxster and Z4 sells, they appeal to drivers, enthusiasts and of course posers. The SLK is a very nice car but in reality nothing special. A cruiser, serves up few real thrills. It sells too. The F-Type will sell too on looks alone whether it's a good drive or a great drive. If there's magic in the chassis that'll swing it for a good few doubters in spite of the price. Others will stick to the usual suspects.

550pony R Coupe at £100k would be pretty much my perfect motor to be honest.

His statement is correct... Most people who buy sports cars are worried about weight or handling to a degree, it's what it looks like and how it makes them feel. If they did cars like the SLK, SL, 6 series and XK wouldn't sell. I suspect in spite of the extra weight the F-Type will do the business. Of late Jaguar have great form in the area of chassis dynamics etc.

I've been thinking about the weight and it is a bit disappointing. My 10 year old E46 M3 Coupe weighs in at around 1550kg, it has a steel construction, a big boot, seats for 4 adults, airbags etc. etc. and (I believe) an iron blocked straight six up front. Yet is still weighs more than an all-aluminium 2 seater sportscar with (I assume) an all alloy V6. How does that work??
