I can't believe some of what I'm reading.

Why on earth would you ask a next door neighbour if they mind you buying the same car lol

I couldn't give a fk if everyone on my road had the same car, I buy a car because I want it.

Where does it end? What about if they have the same pair of jeans, or use the same cleaning products...

Flip it around.. would a neighbour owning a car put you off buying the same model if that was what you wanted?

Can I ask why? I'm intrigued? And is it just a car? Or any other items?

A lot of people want to define themselves as individuals via clothes, cars, etc.

Would you want your car if everybody else had the same one? Personally I'd want to be different, rightly or wrongly.

There's nothing wrong with being different, or making yourself stand out.

I just can't imagine not doing something or not buying something because someone else does or has it.

The way I see it is if I didn't make a purchase on the basis that someone else owned it then I obviously didn't want it that much in the first place.

If your that bothered though don't pick common cars and complain when someone else has one.

My comments not aimed at you personally

I just like to be different and individual, I don't like the idea of identikit conformity. Variety is the spice of life and all that. smile

Don't worry about him buying the same car. When he changes his name to be more like you, start worrying.

For starters it'll confuse the hell out of the postman.

If that's what makes you happy then go for it.. can't say I understand that sort of mentality personally but it's no skin off my nose thumbup

Thinking about it I'd imagine your position (whether it's "right" or "wrong") is actually the more commonly held one than mine - both my current cars are fairly "common", and about the Impreza particular I've had people try and use "your car is so common" as some kind of clever put down. The concept that I might have bought the car just because it was the one I wanted seems to be too far-fetched for some people to handle hehe

The minute you define yourself by your Golf, you should probably kill yourself. If you've basically handcrafted a car and every component of it over 20 years, then you could, at a push, define yourself by you car, however, you still shouldn't

Individual =/= different, and someone who bases their decision based against what other people have are one and the same as people who buy something because everyone else is. Either way you're basing your decision on what someone else has done, which is a bit silly really. Buy what you want, who cares if someone else has the same one, the fact is if YOU decided you wanted it based upon your own preferences than it's about as individual as it gets. It makes not one jot of difference whether everyone else has the exact same one or whether it's the only one in the world.

Nope, it's for going up and down the m-way five days a week, 112 miles every day. No need for the extra bhp, my Rx-8 provides the thrills.

One reason that a lot of people may have similar cars is if a local dealer had a good offer on a specific vehicle.

A chap a few doors down from me got an R32 last year, hearing that wonderful exhaust note every day significantly contributed to why I got one too - both deep pearl blue 56 plates!

My best man did that last year. The odd thing was that I was telling him about the various cars I'd seen and what to look for, and he went out 4 weeks later and bought a newer one. Never even mentioned it.

I'm with you mate. Got to wonder how a thread titled "Neighbour buying same TV" or "Neighbour buying same camera" or "Neighbour buying same brand of sun dried tomatoes" would end up. Madness! PHers - step away from the keyboards!
