RE: Jay Leno designs new 240Z
Discussion
Love Jay and got to love the 240Z. Used to walk past many of them at Adam's Datsun Garage Eskbank alongside 100s 120Ys 180s and all manner of quick rusting Jap metal. Not sure the Jay bashing in the article is deserved. Thanks to his website it is the best virtual garage in the world full of genuinely interesting cars. It would make a great video seeing Monkey Harris pay a visit and have his pick of keys!

Another +1 for this. Would love to see a PistonHeads feature with him - somehow get Harris out there to meet him and check out some of his most awesome cars? His website is WELL worth a read as there's some really fun stuff on there and it's great to see truely rare / unusual stuff out on the road - he subscribes to the Chris Evans philosophy of using the cars and letting other people see / appreciate them out on the road rather than locking them up and mollycoddling them!
I check his site for updates weekly and think that would be a great idea. I do skip past a lot of the pro-American promotional stuff he has on there and the adverts in the video are just about worth stomaching. What's strange is his lack of BMW's. He doesn't have an E30 M3, or even an Evo Merc. What's going on there!? Harris needs to investigate!

I reckon the lack of that sort of late 80's German stuff is that they didn't have quite the cult following they did in the UK and Europe, the touring car circuit did a lot for the credibility of the e30 m3 and made it the legend everyone sees it as now. If he was was from Europe I'm sure he would have more of that sort of thing and less American stuff. What's strange is his lack of BMW's. He doesn't have an E30 M3, or even an Evo Merc. Jay seems to have some very nice European cars, an M3, while a fantasy car for many is probably not very high up on his 'want' list.
Lets see, from memory, a number of original Bugattis, a fistful of lamborghinis, several Mclarens?, Vintage Bentleys, Jaguars, Astons,Steam Cars, Brit Motorbikes.. No Ferraris though AFAIK
I get the strong impression that Jay really knows his stuff, and is not just a chequebook collector, Certainly has the most interesting collection imaginable, only downside is his website has been spoiled lately with a makeover no doubt by the corporate sponsors who think we might be interested in the tedious crap they peddle.
Apart from that,Good luck to him.

On some of the earlier videos I used to regularly see, I think, an E55 AMG Merc parked up in some of the shots... so I don't think he is entirely against that sort of car, but I guess he's just not into their way of doing things! What's strange is his lack of BMW's. While I do think he has a very broad range of cars in his collection, from French to British, Italian and Japanese vehicles, quite a few of the iconic German cars have passed him by. He may have some old timer Mercs though, not sure.Edited by Hellbound on Wednesday 3rd October 00:19

would be nice to see a new 240 that competes around the 23k mark with the gt86/brz... they dont have to do a vast amount though, ive only seen one on the road,1 on the back of a transporter, and 1 that i've test driven since they came out
They haven't been out long enough to circulate, I guess. I remember it was a similar situation with VW Sciroccos - announced, then nothing for months.A neighbour of mine has one though, in Toyota Rosso with a black stripe beneath the door with 'GT86' in Porsche 'Carrera'-style writing. Very

I think Leno makes a good video! Nice and slick but with an honesty with it too.
I do like the 350's, but I saw one about 5 months ago broken down a way before Hammersmith Flyover, it had wet itself (All coolant dumped on the kerb) and a perma tanned lad in a designer polo shirt was filling it up with approx 2 litres of tap water with his made in chelsea girlfriend looking on. I hope they aren't all in the hands of people like him, or i'll have no faith in the mechanics.
