Having owned 2 of them I'm slighly biased but the Clio Willy really should have been higher placed than that....it was and in my mind still is hot hatch perfection!

I'm off to the classifieds.

Don't want to start up the same old argmument again but if I think "Hot Hatch" the Grale never comes to mind.

I think I make a mental connection between hot hatch and FWD, so also wouldn't come up with the Escort RS, Clio V6 etc.

I know, by definition, they are all hot hatches but my brain seems to refuse to accept it.

Odd?
My thoughts exactly, Ive always regarded hot hatches at a tuned version of the original, not a

homologation special. Maybe there should be a sub category such as "Hyper Hatch" for the non front wheel

drive cars

Peugeot 106 GTi rated...but no Saxo VTS what so ever?? And a Renault 5 GT Turbo was rated higher than them both, a fiesta rs turbo is conpletely on par with one....and a clio williams outdoing an escort cosworth!??

And a bloody amc pacer??????? Who compiled this nonsense?

Agreed...I had one of those aswell, I got mine from a chap who had a collection, it had been kept in storeage and only had 11k from new, i really wanted to go nuts with modification as you do with an R5 but i just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I always loved the 250bhp BB tuning R5, that was a monster.

An integrale a hot hatch? why no votes for Saab 900 turbos then? Crazy.

And I don't understand why the Rover BRM isn't on the list....

No Citroen Visa GTI. A very good car but not pretty. Arguably better roadholding than a 205 GTI of which it shares it's engine and front suspension. However it has better rear suspension. However the AMC must be a joke, the Gremlin was a better car.

Having driven a Delta HF 16v Integrale 90' (not an EVO but about the same i reckon) i disagree with the result,in top 10 surely but not 1st definitely, don't get me wrong i like it and was very close of buying it but my top three of best hot hatches ever would have been:

3:205 1.9 GTI
2:Williams
1:5 GT Turbo

Not definitely in that order it could be the other way round but these are the most fun/purest true hot hatches imo,a worthy podium.

Always wanted one of these but sadly my good lady wife is physically ill at the mere sight of one...I was always under the impression that the mk2 was a cracking drive.

Why is the 205 GTi split into 1.6 & 1.9?

If so, why isnt the Golf split into 8v & 16V variants?

I agree that whislt the Evo is an excellent car it should not be included as a hot hatch - one of the greatest drivers cars of all time even if you beleive what you read (as I havent been in one) but its a rally rep and not a hot hatch in the traditional sense.

Good fun and some interesting cars on the list!

Agree whole heartedly with the winner and most of the other cars.

Would have liked to have seen the Lotus Sunbeam higher.

Biggest surprise for me was there being no Megane R26R up there in top ten. Not a car I like but thought it was rated higher.

the other thing is that the 306 rallye and gti-6 are miles apart from each other, even though all that separates them is Air con and manual windows.
I mean really?
AND ANOTHER THING..

Im not sure i'm happy the lancia deserves number one. But i like my hatches fwd. Or heck even RWD, awd though frown

I appriecate its user voted though.

Some people are taking this FAR too seriously. This thread alone proves why the supposedly weird collection and order, is, well, weird.

How can the stock 172 (not the cup) be so far above the 182?

And why aren't the cup and and standard one split into two categories if the 205 is? Not fussed by the results but some of the groups look a bit strange.

An interesting side note is the Integrale was exactly that a "tuned version of the original", the original being the Delta HF Turbo4x4. More interestingly though, the Clio Williams was actually built for homologation purposes.

Agree with a few cars on there. Highly doubt many of the voters have actually driven those cars. If they had I imagine it would be a very different story. Well done to the 15 year olds who voted!
