Am I the only one thinking

where is the XR2 mk2?
Amazingly no votes for it and only one solitary vote for the Fiesta RS Turbo which ranked it out of the listing.

I can honestly say that I haven't driven any cars on that list.
Oh and I didn't vote for any thing anyways.

How can a car which was never even sold on these shores be in the top 10 (Civic?)

I don't know anyone who has owned one. I know lots were imported but I can't honestly think of the last time I even saw one on the road.

How odd.

BMW 130i as a hot hatch???? A hot hatch surely is a cheap car with decent performance and not a £30K motor.

Odd list but the only thing I'll say is that the XR2 was never a good hot hatch, in any form.
Golf GTI above R5 GT Turbo means less people drove the Renault which was epic, even by my current Fiesta ST's standards.

How can the stock 172 (not the cup) be so far above the 182?

And why aren't the cup and and standard one split into two categories if the 205 is? Not fussed by the results but some of the groups look a bit strange.
Because this is a poll by 300BHP/TON and he is a law unto himself.
Or rather people vote and I simply count what people voted for idea

But you're welcome all the same smile

And the winner is!!!! A LHD unreliable piece of crap that looks the business but I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.

For me the winner is the MK1 Gti, it will always be the original hot hatch and still to this day driving one makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, pure passion that car is.

All the people complaining, where were you when the poll was running. The result is from PH votes. We can all have our personal top tens but this is a collective vote. More people voted for the Delta than any other so arguing that the MK1 GTI or any other is a mute point.

People take the mick out of you 300, me included and your deserve the grief biggrin but fair play for doing the poll mate. Interesting results.

I did vote but I can still laugh at all the other people who voted for the Integrale.

Hot hatch??

very odd list of cars..

the no1 is right Mk1 GTi (which I haved owned!)

But the rest? Escort Coworth, Lancia Integrale, Pulsar GTiR etc etc, they are all rally slags and should not be put on the same list.

My idea of a hot hatch is FWD and modest power. Not 4WD and huge turbos!

I wonder maybe a thread of the top rally slag list?

Audi Quattro
Lancia Integrale
Escort Cosworth
Subaru Impreza
Mitsi Evo
Celica GT4
Subaru Legacy
and many more
And the Delta would come first in that list too, what's your point?

A very good list and results

The End
my point being many people inclduding me dont class cars like integrales and cosworths as hot hatchbacks.

its like doing a supercar list littered with things like BMW M5's, Audi RS6's etc..

I think most people who own an Integrale or an Escort Cosworth would be offended if they were told they were driving a hot hatchback.

Not a bad list. Did not know about it, but a decent decision seems to be made. Not sure why the Clio V6 is in there, and not the 6R4 (I know it doesn't count really).

I agree with MOST of the top 50 listed, but in no way are they in the correct order!
Also, how bloody rare are some of them! The whole point of a Hot Hatch is a car that brings practical performance to the masses.
A Clio V6 doesn't do that and I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw an Alfasud.
Cossie's were too expensive new, but if you're going to include the Escort Cossie why not include the Sierra RS500?
What about the Audi Sport Quattro? that's a hatch!

Affordable, practical performance is what defines a Hot-Hatch in my opinion.

XR2i, XR3i, Escort RS Turbo, SAAB 900 turbo, Golf Rallye, Proton Satria GTi ( trust me, a good laugh ), Fiat Uno turbo, Mitsubishi Cyborg ( JDM tuned colt ), Nissan Pulsar / Sunny GTi, Toyota Starlet turbo............
Seriously, the list goes on, and by no means is the list we're all commenting on anywhere near accurate, nor comprehensive enough.

The simple fact is that there were the cars we'd go buy, the golfs the 205's and so on, and then there were the cars we'd want but few would be able to afford at the time, such as the Lancia's and Cossies.

Would we really say that a current Focus RS, fully spec'd up is a Hot-Hatch in the purest sense of the term? Or would we all agree that something like the current Clio 200 is staying closer to the truth?

Because polls are all about the number of people voting and not about which car is best.

There are even polls which opine that the completely false Ed Milliband would make a good Prime Minister.

Really?

Owned a low mile low owner one, loved every minutes of it. A mate had one too which was great too. Took any abuse you threw at it, handled really well and sounded great.

How much more did the Golfs cost over a simular Ford?

I see you drive a Fiesta ST... I owned a Zetec S along side my XR2 and a part from the Zetec S having more electrics, it was no better to drive, if anything it was worse. Not saying the Zetec S is a bad car, its a very good car, but never moved on from the XR2. I have mates with Fiesta ST's and if I am honest, its pretty poor im comparison. a MK2 Gti Golf/RS Turbo etc would all stick to the tail of yours and stay there while being more fun and attached to the driving experience.

The 'grales, Cosworths and the like shouldn't be included in this list - they aren't hot hatches, they're homologated rally cars with associated high purchase and running costs.

Can't argue with the rest of the list though.
The Integrale Evo II wasn't a homologation car (previous models were) so just assume that all voters for the Delta meant that particular verion. Happy?
