So, is your car fast?
Discussion
I think we are confusing fast with quick. I thought fast was top speed and quick was acceleration.
Chimaera 500 ( 0-60 4.1 seconds, supposed) 300 bhp per ton feels super quick
Jaguar xjr ( 0-60 5.1 seconds with pulley upgrade) 400 bhp feels really quick and surprises quite a few cars :-)
The chimaera feels like its doing a 100 when it's only doing 70 and the xjr feels like its doing 60 when it's doing a hundred ( north Weald airdrome)
Neither are fast at 150 mph approx but with the instant torque available immediately at any time makes them both feel really quick

Z4M - 245bhp per ton (ish) I deem it to be quite quick, but not really fast. My friends think it's a missile once they've experienced it.
R1 - 635bhp per ton with me on it. I consider it to be seriously fast.
After driving/riding those two for a bit, it makes my 120d feel like the throttle's broken.

BMW M3 - V8 with DCT (the gearbox does make it faster I think) Anyway I consider it fast, and so do my friends and passengers, and I think other motorists.
Not crazilly so though, and certainly not as quick as my Porsche 996 Turbo was. However then that was 4 wheel drive and had wider tyres and more weight above the driven wheels.
To make an M3 V8 proper fast one would have to add a supercharger for about £6-9K - taking it to 550 - 650 BHP. That would be a giant killer.

BMW E36 328SE saloon, standard....fast enough for day-to-day commuting, etc. but not really quick
BMW E30 M3, mildly modded in engine, brakes and suspension...again, fast enough on the road, but pretty quick on any twisty bit or on a track
Nissan Almera Tino SE 1.8 petrol: slow and underpowered, but can keep up with most things on A roads...dowsn't feel quick at all on b-roads or motorways, especially fully loaded!

I think something being fast is very subjective and down to peoples experiences.
For some people they would class something like a fiesta st as "fast" where I'd class it as average.
Someone used to bikes or a westfield etc would have different definitions of what fast is.
The fastest car I've ever driven is a c63 amg at brooklands and that felt very quick.
My elise is the fastest car I've owned and does feel like I'm going faster than I am, but to be honest I'm used to it now and it feels normal and almost "slow".
I find regardless of what car you have, their performance soon becomes normal and you tend to crave for more performance.

Corrado 1.8 16v ~140ish Hp is Nippy,
BMW Z4 3.0 ~240hp is Brisk.
In the grand scheme of things, neither is really "fast", but both will happily pull away from most traffic.
The corrado feels more involved when driving, almost willing you to try and get round the next corner as fast as possible. However: the z4 would be doing the same speed in a more wafting manner.
Diff'rent strokes and all that.
