So, is your car fast?

One of them was in front of my e46 M3 which I considered pretty fast. I couldnt catch the thing, No idea what was under the bonnet.
there are a few 400bhp ones floating around - would imagine seeing one is rare though, either having new front tyres fitted or having the engine/gearbox rebuilt... Pixelpeep said:
Mapped Astra VXR, feels fast to me, will do 150mph without too much argument, can easily get 1.20mph down a slip road and 95% of the time is in front of whatever is trying to catch it.
however... the 5% of the time i meet someone with something really quick, it feels like i left the handbrake on.
before the map i came up against a VXR8 on the A12.. we were already doing 50 then the traffic cleared. Events like this help remind you that you will never have the fastest thing on the road

It looked like it was being tested, and out on a test run. Front bonnet was full of vents, back bumper was missing. It's an interesting question. As a petrol head I'd instinctively say neither my BMW (e36 323iA touring) or Westfield (1.8 Zetec 130bhp) are fast. However the BMW is still probably quicker away from a set of lights than most cars on the road. In its day it would have been good on the motorway top gear drag race too, but the modern turbo diesel would see it put away with ease. It will knock out 140 odd still though.
The Westfield is genuinely fast off the lights by any standard. Again plenty of cars on here would destroy it, but 99% of the cars on the road need not apply I suspect. Anything beyond about 70 and it's lost though (damn windscreen / air brake!).

Never been in anything proper fast (not whilst moving anyway). List of experience is as follows:
Current car,Impreza turbo 2000 mapped to 250bhp. Feels fast enough for any public road; fun on B roads.
Previous car, supercharged polo G40, tweaked to 170bhp. Utterly mental, crap handling, mind numbingly scary at full bore, quite quick on the rare occasion that traction occured. In short an education in how not to kill yourself driving! Fun on B roads.
Previous car, 1.0l Polo Boulevard. Slow but, when driven at full bore was the most fun car I've ever driven on a B road.
Fast is relative as I see it. Any car that is fast in absolute terms shouldn't be used properly on public roads (not around other people anyway).

Yes, and with a 10k prize fund for the winner... But I have a feeling I would still lose.
How fast do you really need to be able to go on the road? None of my cars is anything like as fast as a lot of the things people on here own but on the road both my Clio and my SEC have as much power as you could ever possibly need in the UK. They are faster than 95% of cars on the road and everyone I know thinks they are fast, so yes I class them as fast cars. I know a 700bhp muscle car is faster and that's splendid if you spend your time doing standing 1/4 miles but I don't, I drive on public roads.

There have been a number of very odd responses to this thread. I am just waiting for someone to come along with 'my Bugatti Veyron is not that fast' just so they can fit in with all the other posts from people with fast cars saying they are slow!
But thats PH, because there will be someone. Mostly because compared to redvictor it would be slow.
The only way to win on PH, is to be happy with what you have. And if you cant, then find some tiny bit of it that does make you happy.
Its the PH way!
Discovery is not too quick unless you are going across a ploughed field (which I do quite often) but even with a trailer on the back the lad in the Peugeot couldn't get past under acceleration!!!!!
SL500 is pretty quick and very comfortable even with the top down.
Cerbera 4.5 can be quite manic in a rather raw way.
But the Ultima GTR is butt clenchingly fast especially for passengers.
