oh yes!

My only limitation is the tyres on it at the moment are track tyres limited to 170ish...can't wait to wear em out so I can put some PS2's on it and go for vmax.

As with this, I think the CSL is pretty quick, but not "can't breath" fast

The Alpina C2.5 will just about keep pace with a modern 520d, and as a friend of mine said: "If it's a couple of decades old and you can feel yourself being pushed back into the seat, it was fast in its day" biggrin
I like that smile i drive a non turbo diesel 205 with 60 bhp. So no. Not by any description. Unless you count "faster than stationary".

600bhp 0-60 in 2.9. Top speed is fairly irrelevant, I think most passengers would say its its the fairground ride experience that classifies it as fast.

Question, I have a friend who sold his after getting bored with it, no-one can complain about the mind boggling performance - but he did say it handles the acceleration so well it doesn't actually feel as brutal as you'd expect, what is your take on it?

Sorry, PH nub here so have to ask, what the hell is it that redvictor drives then? confused

135i Coupé here, 306bhp, tickles 200bhp/ton, quicker than I'll ever need to go, bit of a slow one compared to a lot of the monsters on here ...

NO that's his toy biggrin but he does also drive a slighty tamer victor estate as a daily.

2.9 0-60 is very impressive for a MY09/MY10. I presume this is with LC on the 2012 software?

253bhp/tonne, used to feel fast but now only feels quick, still manages to surprise a few people though.

That car is by no means slow, anything sub 5.5 seconds is very quick, below 4.5 is fast IMHO. Pretty much the difference between the 911 S and the Boxster S....the 135i M falls in the middle of that. I loved reviewing it!

E46 330Ci? Quick, rather than fast.

RR Sport 4.4 V8? Definitely quick (for what it is) but not fast.

GSX-R750 K6? Fast. Very, very fast. Not litre bike quick in a straight line, but on any given road or track there's nothing in it. 0-60mph in circa 4 seconds and a top speed in excess of 160mph = fast if you ask me.

Which brings me to a point - fast is largely perception based. After a winter in the car, the first trackday (or fast road ride) on the bike is always a bit mind blowing in terms of the speed, but you soon get used to it. Converserly after a summer on the bike, the car feels slow but you are probably driving faster and smoother (and safer too) on the roads as you are that much more alert. Just my take on it...

Speed is so relative.

Many years ago I was lucky enough to get a season driving a Brabham Repco. It was the Oz 2.5L version of the world championship winning 3.0L. They had a bit over 300BHP & weighed around 1000Lbs.

My test drive was at the Warwick Farm short circuit. Coming from an F2, I could not believe how hard it went. The acceleration was so brutal I was getting the thing almost totally straight out of the corners, before flattening it. Even so I was close to the lap record, & got the drive.

We went to Bathurst for the Bathurst 100, & then after some updating of the engine, we went back to Warwick Farm, for a test & tune afternoon. After a few laps I came in & complained that the thing had no power, & just wouldn't go.

The team owner looked at me a bit funny, then without a word showed me my lap times. I had been lapping almost a second quicker than the lap record. He then asked me what times I thought I could do, if the thing had some power.

Nothing like 150 miles of Bathurst to get you comfortable with a car.

I wouldn't say mine are fast, though they feel quick. The TVR is pretty quick but feels quicker due to the noise. The Mini certainly isn't fast (except round corners where it doesn't need to slow down) although it feels fast with rock hard suspension, no interior, sound deadening or carpets...

edited to add: I'd rather have something that feels fast bu isn't than something that is fast but doesn't feel it.

I had a 135i for a 48hr test drive back along, I'd just giggle with laughter each time I shot off up the road at WOT! It's a cracking car. I was phoning (hands free!) a car-mad mate in between bouts of chuckling to give him my amateur review as I went. It's an outrageous little car and I couldn't trust myself with one. The 1M must be the next level of bonkers.

S2000 - Well its the fastest car I've owned so far in my life, and compared to most cars I'll see in a day, it probably is quite fast. However in comparison with a lot of cars on PH, its quite average and merely nippy
