The new Beetle.
Discussion
It's a clever trick but when you analyse it, it just looks nothing like an original Beetle. It just has certain "features" like pseudo-separate wings but it's fooling nobody.
I don't like it. The original was unique, upright, beetle-backed (this isn't) and because it was so fuddy-duddy, modifying it with wide steelies and a good exhaust made it look cool and despite it's dynamic ineptitude, it just screams character and "Herbie-ness". You had to give it a name and listen to the air-cooled chug-chug-chug that was so distinctive and central to its personality.
The modern version has nothing - sucked humbug looks, homogenised "retro" ingredients, hatchback, it's all an illusion.
I'd like to see one on steel wheels and chrome centres but can't believe it would make much difference overall.
To me, I see this car as appealing only to people who would otherwise have bought a Golf or Scirocco anyway though the PT Cruiser brigade might be tempted.

Mmmmmm. Lovely in a nice warm grey with grey and grey...
That's the old model. The interior of the new one looks much nicer.http://www.caranddriver.com/photos-11q2/397140/201...
interior just looks like any other VW. this is just a marketing gimmick and nothing else, to appeal to those who like the look of a old beetle, but have no interest in cars, maintenance or owning a classic. The sort of person who only ever gets there car serviced or MOT'ed and doesn't check the tires or oil, and who thinks that cars over 5 years 'always break'.
fking Boo.

The new Beetle is awful.
Had a good look at a couple of them today. Just don't like them - they look like the kind of things Hot Wheels would produce.
Horrible wheels, horrible looking body updates, horrible looking interior. A horrible car that, IMO, is not worthy of being called a Beetle.
Rather like the Mini of today isn't worthy of being called a Mini. At least that's what I think.

IMVHO they are just to close to the equivalent Golf to appeal. The only thing setting them apart is the styling. Everything else is just less functional than on the Golf. If they were RWD, or cheaper, or came with any other differentiating quality except looking different... But like this? Not interesting.
