One of the reasons some large things are 'dumped' at the roadside, is because a lot of the tips wont allow any kind of commercial vehicle in, unless one you prove its your only form of transport, prove address etc etc.

So, if you are moving house and have rented a van, and then decide to get rid of the sofa, you could be denied access by your local dump.

I have a 'permit' from my local council so that i can use my van up to 12 times a year to dump household rubbish

Ring up the council and say they were dumped on the road and that you moved them off as they were dangerous. Ask them to come and pick them up. If they don't tell them you will be putting them back on the road!

If you move them they become your responsibility, and if you then dump them on council-owned land/roads you are liable for their removal too, or face prosecution.

happens a lot around here, proper disposal is £1 a tyre, caravan utilising nomadic travellers offer to get rid of them for £0.50. Trouble is they end up dumped, call to council should sort it. yet another way we have to subsidise these scum.

That really sucks for you OP. I know it's not the point, but it shouldn't cost you anything near £240 to get rid of them. The most I have ever paid is 85p + VAT per tyre, and I'm currently only paying 70p Inc per tyre.

If know one will take them off you then at least try shopping around.

Take a tyre put some rope through it, fill the bottom half with petrol, hang it off a Gatso, light it

Rinse repeat

Too late now but if it happens again, move them onto council land or by a highway. I guarantee the authorites will be more interested.

I think they're worthless because of the volume of used tyres that are discarded daily

I was talking to a guy that runs a processing plant for used tyres the other day and he reckons that before long, they will have a value again. Apparently, China is taking as many as they can get. They use them to fuel furnaces.

That is really st, can't believe some people still do things like this! Hope it gets sorted with as little outlay as possible on your part.
