The ones that I remember from Clive Taylors workshop in Bedfordshire back in the late 70's early 80's
Merc 220 coupe with a 327 cu in V8 (his mother in laws car )
Mk1 Escort estate with a 3.5 rover V8
Dingo scout car with turret removed to look like a large beach buggy with a 9ltr V8
morris 1100 with a 1750 maxi engine in the boot .
various CF Bedfords with an assortment of V8s
The attempts by Vauxhall with V8 conversions go back to the 70s , they tried a V8 holden in an FE Victor that twisted the baulkhead and fractured the A posts when tested on the ripple road .
Many race cars from the Super Saloon series had V8 conversions even an Escort with a Cosworth F1 DFV lump , and a capri with a 9ltr V8 diesel converted to petrol .Also a Daf 33 with a 3.5 V8 and the De Roy brothers who ran BDA engined DAFs in rallycross .
Ian Richardson ran a Corvair with Maclaren Can Am mechanicals in it .
Mick Hills Janglia a jag engined Ford Anglia .
Garden shed engineering heroes will always suprise us , they have done so ever since motoring began

worth a read tumbleweed

I knew Graeme many years ago when I was an active member of the WSCC, he has always built cracking cars. I didn't realised he had moved to Barbados.
worth having a look at his busa powered westie rebuild , carbon porn plus a high level of engineering excellence , clearly i need to go to Barbados on a fact finding mission

I wonder nobody has mentioned J Leno s tank car yet?

I think it has one of the crazy M48 engines.

From a mad but driveable position I wonder where the 6,3 V 8 from amg could go? Sticking it in a cerbera could be great fun fo example

A guy that works for a company I share an office building with was telling me the other day hes building some kind of crazy KA, I forgot all about it until the other day and I seen this ropey looking KA in the car park. Exhaust sticking through a hole in the bootlid, massive exposed cooling fan on the front - it looked a mess.

I get closer and see that its stripped, caged and has an engine in the back. From memory, I'm pretty sure he said he was fitting a Saab 2.3 HOT engine and a 4WD system eek

Tank Car isn't really a swap though as its a ground up build almost. Randy Grubb is insane and genius in equal measure

I love it and after seeing this I became obsessed spotting K12 micra sports. It was a phase.

The Jay Leno's Garage episode on that car (on Youtube) is well worth a watch if you haven't already- it turns out that Charger can do a pretty decent burnout... hehe

Hah, I remember that from Evo magazine about 15 years ago, they took a bunch of cars to Germany to try and do 200mph on public roads, and the that Audi IIRC was the only one that actually topped 200mph before they ran out of clear road.

And to think only this morning I was dreaming about an R32 4x4 conversion for my PD170 MK2 Leon FR and thinking it was too silly...........
Yep, because it would then be slower!
You'll need to explain how 240bhp would be slower than 170 in the same car. And the R32 lump wouldn't be kept stock in any case..........
Because I've had R32s and they're not fast at all. If you're going to turbo it however, different story.....

I stopped reading PPC years and years ago because the content was interesting, but the format and everything else was gash.

Did he ever finish it then? Last I remember reading it, he was building a dyno for it, and planning on turbocharging it because it was only making 400bhp. And it had no windscreen.
I stopped reading it because they never bloody finished anything!

Picked up a copy the other day in a shop for a browse, yep, Hollman's BMW still doesn't work. The other bloke still hasn't finished any of his long standing projects, but has some how bought some more.

I bought this off ebay from a very clever petrolhead in Scotland and had 3 great years fettling it for the road. Its a BMW E36 M3 Evo engine in an MG Midget.
