Not that mental. Opel got as far as doing Autobahn testing on a V8 Omega but they couldn't keep it cool enough on long runs for production.

Nah, there was some swedish(?) chap who'd tuned something up to 1000bhp and whapped it in the front of Vauxhalls executive barge. They tried to vmax it on some ring or other, but unremembered mechanical failure may have put paid to it.

Will try to dig the issue out in the absence of someone with an infallible memory.

Racing Dynamics K55. Mightn't sound as wild now, but remember being blown away by the idea of a Compact with a 427bhp bored-out V12 from the 850Ci. Only one built I believe, and price-tag would have been £86k back in 1997 IIRC
