Why the cock would you track a 1500kg motor???
If you had a 1M on your driveway and wanted to do a trackday, why wouldn't you?

Dad's off to test the M135 tomorrow as his next company car after looking at one at the stealers, I really like the look of it and sounded awesome on startup! smile

Why?

Hatchback to make it look like a boring shopping trolley and 4wd to make the steering numb and boring?

No, better as it is by a mile.

Does look pretty good for a recent BMW. I'd love to have a go and see what all the fuss is about.

I think if I was to spend 40k on a new motor it would probably be a Lotus Evora; well actually you could up that a bit and put in a bid for the entire company...

Wonder where the Toyoburu came on Chris's list of daily drives...

I had one of these ( in Valencia Orange which, I think, looks fabulous )
It was great but ultimately I preferred the current M3.
It just felt like a quality product, like it had been developed over a longer period and had more money spent on it.
Obviously it's more expensive but in a direct comparison and as an ownership proposition I enjoyed it more.
I don't think the size / weight comparison is particularly valid in an everyday driver context.
My real favourite is still the E46 M3 CS.

I testdrove an RS3 and then a manual S3 Sportback. The latter was considerably more involving even if it did lack the soundtrack and sheer OMG acceleration of the RS3. DSG gearbox just removes all the interactivity (although it does alleviate the generic A3 flaw of that stupid spar by the gear-lever which I found I banged my knee against constantly when changing gear - most uncomfortable). Dual clutch is fine if you like computers and videogames. Personally I prefer a more involved experience.

Think he's an Audi lover looking at he profile... I thought the same as you... Why? Easy to throw a statement out there without building your case... The 1M is great the way it is... And I'm a Quattro driver.
I would be interested in seeing a 4WD M car (not SUV), just to show Audi that it can be done and be exciting wink

cant get my weekly shopping in it, the boot is far too small

nightmare to sit in traffic riding the clutch (i spend 3hrs a day in traffic)

cant use all the power in the wet (im not a F1 driver) and as for snow!

oh and it needs 4 doors as my MIL is 89 and has a bad hip and could never climb in the back

so its a fun weekend / track toy but far to limited as a daily driver for me and we are talking in the context of one car to live with every day, to do everything, even the 12"s + of snow we had a couple of years back (my R32 had no issues in the snow on stock tyres)

and don't get me wrong i love the 1M (i test drove one over a year ago) its my fav bimmer after the E30 M3 but i couldn't live with it every day

I agree with CH, don't like the burnt orange. White looks good though. You would be forever washing black.

it looks vastly better in the metal than in photos, i could live with it but i would prefer white with smoked rims and the black spoiler ala the polar bear on here

I'd love to hea/read a comparison between the 1M and the MKIV Supra in manual Twin Turbo guise. 20 years apart, but similar power, weight, TT i6 engine, 6 speed gearbox, LSD etc.

Ok, I can see it was more a jest as basically it's not the 1M needs to be 4WD etc, more you need a different car. RS3 nearer in spirit to what your requirements. I'm with you re the M3. I've said here before, given more free cash the M3 would be my weapon of choice. No snow worries down my way smile

I have seen the burnt orange a few times in the flesh, still prefer it in white, also seen in the flesh.

I also like the tii concept colour scheme

Why not get a used E60 M5 for £20K then spend the remaining £20K on fuel for that thirsty V10 and the inevitable replacement SMG clutch?
The £20K for fuel would probably last you about 3 months at the rate the M5 drinks it!

Only if you consistently drive it like you stole it! I reckon £20k in fuel should take you 50k miles, give or take, at current prices. Which is depressing enough.

To be honest, to me it doesnt matter how fast it is, how much power it has, its still a 1 series. It just screams "I wish I had an M3 but cannot afford one frown"
The rest of your post was good, but this bit I disagree with. If you can afford to buy and run one of these, you can afford an M3, albeit 2 year old.
Does this mean that an M3 just screasms I wish I had an M5, and the M5 screams I wish I had an M6?

Personaly, out of any modern BMW, right now I would want either a 1M or E63 M6 at the moment.

I had already responded to this arguement if you read through the thread.

however, I do feel that the M3, M5 and M6 all offer something slightly different to each other, meaning you could choose any of the 3 depending on what suits your needs, whereas the 1M just seems like a budget version of the M3. Thats how I see it anyway.

Love the 1M. Shame that they were only available in 3 colours as there are others that suit it better IMO. The grey and the blue are wraps, the Java green is a factory special order......
