Love them. Sat in one at Goodwood and are on my list to own in time. Sadly at the minute a touch out of my budget, but perfect car for family too.

Does all things well if not 1 particularly the best it seems

Illegal.

Why the 1M in particular?

I also like the tii concept colour scheme
A real shame, IMO, that BMW never put the tii into production. I would have preferred the 3.0 from the 130i hatch in there, but then being a tii it was always going to have a turbo unit. A missed opportunity? I guess we'll never know.

Because cars like that get clocked before there first mot unfortunately, low build number desirable. peeps keeping the mileage down for resale value,
You'd be surprised just how rife it is,
Lots of things are illegal m8 but they still go on, it's a shame but that's the way of the world unfortunateley

The only thing that keeps nattering in the back on my head, is how perfect the car would be with a Double Clutch Transmission......
Had it been offered, I'd have had the DCT.

Manual only didn't stop me buying one though. Nearly at 20k and despite 3 test drives in M3s I have yet to be persuaded to part with mine.

Lovely. I still regret not getting one when I had the chance and I could of course get a lightly used one now, but for me the 5dr M135i is going to make more sense. I hope it's as fun as they make out.

Love the 1M. Shame that they were only available in 3 colours as there are others that suit it better IMO. The grey and the blue are wraps, the Java green is a factory special order......

More pics and colour on 1-addicts forum.
That looks brilliant in that colour - be my 2nd choice after black

It always amuses me when reading through people's comments on here, how many haters there are who are supposed to be car enthusiasts! I think BMW should be applauded for making a car that is such good fun to drive if a little dangerous at times and If everyone liked the same styling on cars what a boring world it would be!

I like them a lot, the orange one posted at the start of the thread with the dark wheels looks great. I assumes it's been lowered and is running spacers to push the wheels out further in the arches?

One thing, if I bought one I would have to replace the front seats with BMW Performance Recaro seats. The rest of the car is so mad the seats are a real let down.
The orange one with the dark wheels at the beginning of the thread is running bilstien pss10 suspension and 12mm spacers on the back and 10mm on the front

Read the article again: "released in the last year". This was a piece about a practical new performance car, with rear seats, for use as a sole car, not another interminable Pistonheads 'Why would you spend 40 grand on a new car when you could get one of these".
+1
I know, it's a somewhat worthless comparison, it stands to reason you will be able to get an older/bigger/'better' model from the same manufacturer for the same money or less, it's the car's age that dictates the price and many people place as much - if not more - value in the year a car was registered than what's under the bonnet or how it performs.

I really like these & would love to own one, but I must be on my own the current pistonhead rating is in the fives!

I agree the looks are an acquired taste, but in the metal they look so aggressive, I would love to drive one.
It's a cool car, it's just that when it comes to all things BMW there are a lot of haters out there. They're either too new and too expensive but not as good as the older ones, or too old and too cheap therefore they are the preserve of chav knuckle-draggers. The common man thinks that only flash gits drive them, the flash gits write them off as common. Police still regard people who drive them with heightened suspicion despite 3ers outselling Mondeos yet these days any serious criminal would be in a rental Ford in order to perpetrate their acts undetected.

Gutted I recently had to sell my beloved black 1M to buy a family house.

For everyday use best car by far I have ever owned and it always felt so special and an event to drive. Looked great in black, subtle yet very purposeful, it got masses of attention from anybody with half an interest in cars because of what it is, how it looked and that such a rare sight. Had masses of X factor about it.

Upsides - went like stink yet refined, one of the nicest BMW straight six noises for everyday use. Very comfortable and practical. Bang up to date sat nav, hands free and HK sounds system, etc - all the tech stuff really good.

Downsides, nothing really - exhaust a bit boomy at a cruise but that got better with a few miles.

6,000 of my most enjoyable miles including two trips to the Alps. I really hope BMW produce a new version based on the new one series coupe whenever that comes out - if it's anything like the 1M will be at the top my shopping list....

It's sad that the auto industry's latest wares force us to set the bar so low. In another era, we'd simply state that the 1-series is just too homely to ever want one. And too overweight to enjoy it as a sports car. Now we'll overlook the appearance to get a semi-four-seater with some fun in the drivetrain and weighs less than much of it's competition. But if I wasn't too constrained by funds (barring some supercar offerings) it would be:
Porsche 991S
Porsche Boxster S (new model)
Lotus Exige 240 or 260M
BMW 1M (except we don't get them here in the US).

Is someone seriously suggesting an S5 Audi over a 1M? I'd much rather have a Volvo V70 than an S5. More room in the back and does 155mph too!

Also I'd love to know what the bloke comparing the 1M to a Nissan Pulsar/Almera/Sunny drives. I bet its a pedal car.

They look fine, a little "pinched" maybe, I get the dynamics even, it's an M after all. But why, oh why, would you get one over a year old M3 !!!!!????????

No driving advantage, with alot less space.
