RE: You Know You Want To: BMW 1 M

I I owned an e46 M3 for nearly six years, and though the 1M lacks the last 10% of finesse (25% if we're talking about the engine), it is so much more of a vicious little creature that it is miles ahead in the smile-per-mile department.
The only BMW I can think of with the same totally nutty, up-for-anything character is my much-missed Z3M Coupe. Probably not a coincidence that both were skunk-works projects...
Good summary, the 2 you mentioned appeal more to me than an M3 for whatever reasonsThe only BMW I can think of with the same totally nutty, up-for-anything character is my much-missed Z3M Coupe. Probably not a coincidence that both were skunk-works projects...
I like them a lot, the orange one posted at the start of the thread with the dark wheels looks great. I assumes it's been lowered and is running spacers to push the wheels out further in the arches?
One thing, if I bought one I would have to replace the front seats with BMW Performance Recaro seats. The rest of the car is so mad the seats are a real let down.

I also have a 1M and love it.
Mine has had a little bit of DMS magic applied and is now quite a bit faster
With the arrival of my daughter, the Exige 260 I had wasn't big enough to ferry the "family" around, so I needed something more practical. The 1M was the perfect answer, it has enough space in the back for the "little one", plus the boot is big enough to swallow up most of the associated luggage that I need to ship around.
But above all, the car is just fun. It has great "real world" performance (even more now!) and is also a real hoot to drive in the corners (something that I always enjoyed with the Lotus).
I tend to swap my cars quite frequently, but I really do think the 1M is here to stay for a very long time. As Mr Harris says, it's a great "one car to rule them all"

i love what this car stands for and its so anti PC... on that basis its a massive thumps up although its a lot of money for a small car ... call me insecure but i guess 95% of joe public will have no clue what this is and what it can do... yes that is half the appeal i know but the looks are not jaw dropping. it would be perfect for my 2nd car i guess.

Actually it is 1495kg (so pretty close) without the driver (which does vary from driver to driver lol)

How do you find the DMS tune? I have the ESS waiting to go in (I know this sounds stupid, but I have a mac and the flash is windows only so I'm trying to enlist friends)...Mine has had a little bit of DMS magic applied and is now quite a bit faster

Great car, but how can this fit the one car rule? you can't carry anything or fit anyone in the back in comfort?
A couple of weekends ago blasting around the evo triangle and the black mountains, yesterday the monthly trip to costco and piled it all in the boot, SS later in the month and next a trip over to he IOM.....Does it all for us aussieinlondon said:

Especially if i think about its use in london. Small enough to park most places, etc...
The only thing that keeps nattering in the back on my head, is how perfect the car would be with a Double Clutch Transmission......

The Lux Angel Eyes are much brighter than the "orange" stock lights and I think they look great urban_alchemist said:

DMS tune is superb. The way the car now pulls towards the redline is impressive and it doesn't seem to want to stop until it head-butts the horizon. In fact my car was reviewed by a motoring journalist and should appear in the next edition of the magazine (out in a couple of weeks). When reviewing it he was impressed at how much more its got now, especially when pressing on. It's also delimited and on a recent airfield / track day it was still pulling hard past 150mph in 4th gear before I ran out of room.My car isn't just the map though, it has a few other little bits added to pep the power up. In M mode it is now brutal and I'm going to upgrade the tyres to Michelin SuperSports all around when my rears are done.
