it prob has got great off road ability , but as with 90 odd % of these 4x4s no one ever takes them off road, its a look at me thing, if it was really about the drive the build quality etc why are these people not buying a Legacy in normal trim or Outback, The first SUV and still one of the best?

A previous post on this thread says about the state of our nation, and whilst this car maybe be keeping people employed, our nation is suffering from a "look at me" problem along with many other problems.

I do like the looks of this car, what i dont see is the point. You buy a 4x4 with an off road pedigree, then put low profile tyres on it??? I have not yet seen anyone with a 458 Italia with 4x4 tyres on?

So a British success story is a triumph of style over substance then is it even when it has been lauded by every magazine and reviewer as top of its class rolleyes
Not only has its on road abilities been praised but its great off road skills as well. Add the fact the 1000 extra people are now gainfully employed building these things; would you like to tell those workers to their faces that the people buying them are "Clowns"?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you may like to add the caveat that a lot of British workers are currently benefiting from this cars success

Very chavvy, very 'essex'. Just not my cup of tea really. I'm sure they'll sell loads of 'em, but not to me. As for the possibility of a convertible,,,, hurl

Yes very "Essex" but I believe thay are selling like hot cakes, personally when you price up a new mid speccd model you are not far of a RR Sport with a better 3.0 diesel, more room, spoke to a dealer last week offering brand new sport pre reg £51K...

It's a 240BHP, 4wd petrol SUV. I'm guessing that the 'high 20's' MPG wasn't too much of a surprise?
its a 190hp diesel though isnt it?

I have a 5dr diesel 150hp manual and average about 38mpg which isnt too bad really.

No reliability issues so far, had a rattle in the cabin which i located myself and sorted. Other than that faultless.

I personally think pure spec is where its at, mine was a few quid less than 30k and has all the kit i will ever need inc heated leather, dual zone climate, auto lights/wipers, fantastic stereo, bluetooth for your phone.
I think they become worse value as you go up the range.

Driven one off road at the land rover experience yorkshire and was amazed how capable it was too!

I don't know which sums up modern society best - the success of the Evoque or the success of X Factor.
At least the success of the Evoque has real positive implications for jobs and income for a few thousand people in the UK, unlike the X-Factor.

Edited by ewenm on Monday 8th October 14:21
Well the X-Factor's staff don't work for nothing, I am sure they get paid. Plus, the music industry is a great exporter too, as well as British talent shows who are licensed all over the world.

But still, yes the car is very bling, as in tacky mass produced bling IMO. Very Iphone 5.

That barried up monstrosity is not really representative of the car.

No fair enough, but £55k still seems a bit much to me (for a year old car!)

I point and laugh at everyone I see, I honestly think they are comical, and the people who get suckered into buying are clowns.
I'd like to be buried in one, that wat it would be one less that people would have to look at.
You do realise that Victoria Beckham only helped with design on a special edition Evoque and had absolutely nothing to do with the standard car?

Good to see the 'pub experts' are still about on PH smile

Almost certainly not - this is a car that really divides opinion but if the haters actually drove it, I think they'd be very surprised by how good it is. Mine was less than £35k and has everything you could reasonably want - I have 18" wheels on mine and it looks and goes very well.

Over £46K for a glorified Freelander. People must be mad if they are paying that for one of these Cheshire taxis.

The boot's bigger in the RR sport but there's not much more room in the back than there is in the Evoque. 3.0 Diesel is thirstier than the Evoque and it's not much quicker in fact on a b road the Evoque is faster - handles a lot better!

I poo-pooed the Evoque as a concept, saying it was lovely looking but the production vehicle would look nothing like it and it would be laden with compromises.

But it remained almost completely faithful and it looks mint on the road in the right trim. I like it. Though I would only have one if I could afford the devaluation and likely maintenance and quality issues. Which I cant.

I've run a mix of diesels and a lone petrol since the launch last year.

Petrol is the 'best' to drive IMO but the SD4 Auto diesel is not far off it.

Oh, and coupes drive much better than the 5dr's

Some pics:

These were from the launch event July 2011:

These are the car's i've run since:

Petrol SI4 Dynamic Coupe

Diesel SD4 Prestige Manual Coupe

Diesel SD4 Prestige 5dr Lux Auto

TD4 Pure Tech Pack Coupe Manual

And the super rare Beckham car which i spotted near Gaydon last week:

If you haven't guessed i'm quite a fan and yes, i do work for Land Rover. wink

I find the presence of these on the road an affront to most things good about motoring. A pointless, posing-SUV, with excellent styling and minimal functional purpose over a car. Away from the countryside, I find all urban use of SUVs an affront and waste of perfectly good petrol. Needless heavy wky luxobarge rubbish, with all the body control of a fecal deposit.

Needless to say, It's not my thing. But what do I know; i'm just some geek.

Hmz, the red on above isn't too bad but by and large I don't like it, it's not the Evoque's fault as I'm sure it does what it's meant to well enough; it's just that I find it really hard to find any kind of room for these 'really-big-yet-not-really-big' crossover vehicles i.e. X1, X3, Steroid Hulk Mini or this in my heart...

No fan of the Evoque, but I have never seen a Cayenne with anything other than the standard-fit road tyres, nor any of the joke off-roaders like Q7s, X5s, X6s and so on.
