There appears to be a bit of the green-eyed monster towards owners of Evoques from a few posters on this thread smile

it prob has got great off road ability , but as with 90 odd % of these 4x4s no one ever takes them off road, its a look at me thing, if it was really about the drive the build quality etc why are these people not buying a Legacy in normal trim or Outback, The first SUV and still one of the best?

A previous post on this thread says about the state of our nation, and whilst this car maybe be keeping people employed, our nation is suffering from a "look at me" problem along with many other problems.

I do like the looks of this car, what i dont see is the point. You buy a 4x4 with an off road pedigree, then put low profile tyres on it??? I have not yet seen anyone with a 458 Italia with 4x4 tyres on?

So a British success story is a triumph of style over substance then is it even when it has been lauded by every magazine and reviewer as top of its class rolleyes
Not only has its on road abilities been praised but its great off road skills as well. Add the fact the 1000 extra people are now gainfully employed building these things; would you like to tell those workers to their faces that the people buying them are "Clowns"?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you may like to add the caveat that a lot of British workers are currently benefiting from this cars success
Now its comments like yours that really worry me a bit. European Legislation is doing its best to restrict us all to look alike eco boxes devoid of flair and ability, why do you have a problem with people wanting a car that looks different? The fact is that Range Rover has absolutely nailed their target audience and the country as a whole is now benefiting from that vision.

If 95% of the critics on here had any input into this product then the public would not have got the car they wanted, those jobs would not have been created and the UK balance of payment would not look as healthy.

If the Legacy and the Outback where what the market wanted then the Evoque would not have a place, but that is clearly not the case.

I remember seeing the Evoque concept at the FOS a few years ago, and made a point of tracking down one of their marketing people to encourage them not to dilute the design at all as even at that point I knew it would be a success. Truthfully I never thought they would do it. Thankfully they had the vision to follow through.

Which now leads us onto the new Full Fat Range Rover, which again has come in for a lot of criticism on PH. But I again would be happy to bet huge amounts of money that that car will also be a massive success for RR. The company currently has the right people making the right decisions, and as a Brit I am very proud of that

I will defend anyone’s right not to like the car, but don’t critisise those that do, the motoring world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same thing

£65k for a 4 cyl diesel?

I'll be brave and will admit that I think it looks quite smart. I don't like the new badging it has been given, but something appeals about the rest of it.

No fair enough, but £55k still seems a bit much to me (for a year old car!)

Fairly indifferent to the Evoque, neither want one or hate it, but sweet Jesus there are a lot nicer cars you could buy with £55,000 than that.

About the same age as my nephew was when he burst out laughing at the first Fiat Multipla he ever saw. (You know, the frog-faced ones?)

I have to admit that I like them, the 5 door more so than the 3 door though. Diesel one would be nice.

I'm not sure I follow the prices some people are quoting.
The 3d PURE eD4 (2WD) starts at £29695.

For sure you can throw gold wheels and make it a £100k car, but the simple fact is that the car starts at £29695.
I've no idea how than compares to the competition, but lets at least start with the facts smile

It's a great car, BUT, massively expensive.£25k will get you a fully spec'd up ( leather, dual climate,Nav,privacy glass, bluetooth etc) Rav4 4wd with a 5 year warranty. To spec up an Evoque to the same spec is @ £10k more. That's a hell of a lot more wad.You could get a nice used Boxster with the difference.Another BUT, I see many more new Evoques on the road than new Rav4's,so clearly the marketing men have done their job.Would I buy an Evoque, no, but my wife would.Well done JLR for building the thing and releasing it during a recession.

Agreed- also not sure what the point of posting pictures of overpriced (badly?) modified cars and then implying you don't like the standard car and it's too expensive..?

Style over function - well, style over everything really!

I detest that little rear window, and the price for so little accommodation is daunting. As you can tell. its not my kind of thing. And the 2WD version makes no sense at all other than a posers economy special. All I can say is that it is more attractive than any of the BMW Xs.

I don't know which sums up modern society best - the success of the Evoque or the success of X Factor.
At least the success of the Evoque has real positive implications for jobs and income for a few thousand people in the UK, unlike the X-Factor.

Although neither owners sadly pay any relevant UK tax.

nah I quite like that one as well. It's like the owner was about to go full Project Kahn on it and then thought better of it at the last minute and stuck some BMW bits on... smile

Funny how the X-type was slated for being based on a Mondeo, but no-one seems to care with the Evoque / Freelander?

Though it undoubtedly drives very nicely, the Evoque is without doubt an example of style over substance; the latest X3 for example is similarly priced, much more spacious and practical, has a better diesel engine and probably drives just as well, yet the Evoque certainly seems to be more popular.

Hang on, why does everyone on this website have to praise the almighty British industry at every opportunity? Should we laud those industrious little Japanese workers when they put out a st new Mitsubishi lifestyle 4x4? Hoorah for those German fellows for another soulless VW Passat?
