I love the 328i. I've got a shed with a sweet, strong engine and managed to pick up a winter project cheap.

Gratuitous shot hehe

8:20 for a basically standard 328 saloon is mightily impressive.

I seem to recall Jetrho Bovingdon being unable to crack 8mins with a heavily modifed M3...

That was for a full lap tho, not a btg & Dales was a flying BTG on a track day, you are going a lot quicker under the bridge on a flyer, so again thats difernet to a TF lap.

I think you're getting confused with the e46 328 front disc upgrade - there you use the E36 calliper with a different carrier so you can use the larger disc from the E46 328. Needs 16" wheels. The 330 front discs need 17" wheels ( unless you can get hold of the rare AT Italian Contour reps in 16 and have external wheel weights ) but the 330 calipers are physically bigger than used on e36/e46 328. You have to move more fluid and that means the pedal travel will be longer - some people put up with it but others use an M3 master cylinder to give a better response

Tis a good upgrade if you need new discs anyway and are on 16s and above

I remember this from E36coupe.com, lovely looking car. Perfect 'stance' on the Type32s and loved the fact the original amber indicators were retained and there was no (ubiquitous at the time) M tech body kit.

I think for an (let's be honest) old car, the E36 still looks pretty modern with the correct colour combo/alloys etc.

My only minor criticism of the M52 2.8 is that when compared to the M50 2.5 it feels quite lazy and doesn't want to rev. It is however deceptively torquey, the power delivery so smooth you don't realise how quickly you're going until you look down at the speedo.

Cheers

What I think this means is, that the E36 328 seems to becoming a bit of a cult car on Pistonheads, not that it's a 'girls car' or any other kind of insult.

Not that there's anything wrong with driving a girls car anyway. Our E36 based (tenuous link)Z3 2.8 with ESS V2-SQ supercharger, AP Racing 4 pot Big Brakes, front & rear body braces, genuine Alpina cotton reel 18's, etc., is often called a "girls/hairdressers" car, until it passes people on track, cars like an Exige S at my favourite track, Cadwell Park hehe Soon shuts people up.

It looks quite innocent on the road.

Never bothered but it sounds stock apart from a subtle belt whirring. Stock zorst too, not fast & feckless at all.
