I think it's a nicely designed car by modern standards, wouldn't want one though.

Why do many on here seem to take the view that you can't like the Evoque if you're a petrol head?

Maybe they're dieselheads, a different breed of motorist, trying to overcompensate. wink

I wonder if the hand-sewn wallets in the Special Bdition are made in India for rupees and sold for megabucks.

The missus loves hers....bought it for the looks.

That said, it's a surprisingly nice place to be and drives fairly well for such a lump.
My wife also has one and I'm surprised by how chuckable it is. Feels a nicer steer than her old A5 coupe and we don't even have the fancy adaptive dynamics either.

Don't think I'd ever buy one for myself but I do like driving it none the less...

To contradict above. Friend of mine bought a nearly new RR sport and I personally think the Evoque is as nice if not a nicer place to sit.

I think the wide body kit on them looks mint. Would definitely have one.

Google "Evoque Wide Body Kit"

It's a car for the times - downsized 4x4 offering C-seg hatch levels of practicality* with 'better' (sic) styling and a more commanding (read: dominating) driving position.

Anyone preferring image over substance will buy it...and as a few have said that's not just women.

As for it's "driver's car" chops...despite what the JLR boys say it'll never be as good as the equivalent-spec warm/hot hatch, simply because of physics (weight affecting responsiveness, weight & centre of gravity affecting body-roll and pitch for a given level of suspension stiffness, suspension design affecting steering precision, visibility affecting 'placeability' on the road, etc. etc.).

That doesn't make it a bad car though. They're a genuinely nice place to be inside (Ford Focus, I'm looking at you!!!)

* It's broadly the same size inside as a Focus. Just has worse rear viz, despite the van-sized mirrors.

I see guys driving them and they dont look quite comfortable, not physically but they dont seem to have that louche slouched, arm outstretched, leaning a bit, bored with it all but very comfortable and rich thank yow very much demeanour that FFRR drivers have and Sport drivers try to emulate, there is an air of I am driving my wifes car but it is ok, they are really cool and hip and stuff.
Genius observation.

This car was marketed for girls, the whole Victoria Beckham thing with her being the "executive design director" or some other nonsense title like that, and it's clearly worked.

I don't think it's for girls, but its clear that it's being driven by girls more so than men.

So the 911 is wwcoty sports car does this mean that as PH ers we can't drive them either? And what does this say about me in my cayman ?
Guess what I really couldn't give a toss.
Buy what you like, drive it and hopefully enjoy it.
If your taste runs to small/ medium size expensive SUVs then go for it. In fact why not go the whole hog and get a candy pink convertible version - if they decide to build it.

Ha. Says you! wink

I think the Evoque is for people who want to own an RR but find the Sport or the proper RR too big. It's for people who'd otherwise buy X5s or Q7s or whatever, people who want an RR but don't ever want to go offroad. (I know it can go offroad, I just think the people who'd buy it probably wouldn't!) I don't think it's aimed specifically at women, but I can see why women would prefer it.

Not me, though. I spent a while hovering around LR showrooms earlier this year while I was looking for a new car, and I ruled out the Evoque as soon as I saw it. Mostly because it wasn't big enough for what I wanted it for. If I'd wanted a "small" offroader, I'd have bought a Volvo or something. But I also ruled it out because I didn't like its looks, particularly at the rear. I didn't rule it out because I have a pathological hatred of girlie cars.

The funny thing is that whatever we may think here on PH, Land Rover just do not care because they are selling them quicker than they can build them.
For the record I think the Evoque can look sufficiently 'butch' in certain colours and if I wanted a 4x4 I certainly would consider buying one.
It is a shame that cars can carry the 'girls car' or 'hairdressers car' tag but I am as guilty as anyone in my views. I could not own a mini (girls car), certainly not a mini coupe (hairdressers car), SLK (girls car - my Wife has one!), MX5 (girls car), any Peugeot CC (girls car), Volvo C70 (girls and hairdressers car), black Range Rover Sport (pimps car) ....is there anyone I haven't upset or insulted here???
