The article version is definitely for the chicks - however, the following isnt:

No, that's for manly men who have nothing at all to prove to the world. Very manly. Grrrrr.

I really like it, it drives really well and is the right size for everything I need it for. A Range Rover is too big and I don't like big cars, Freelander is right too but this had a much better feel to the drive and better package better looks etc. I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to drive it and was impressed and loved it....I wanted one!

It was originally designed for both men and women with 3 different interior styles: Fashion girly soft fabulous fabrics and flowery trim, Range Rover neutrality and Masculine Black red and chrome with Recaro esque sports seats (all good for the brand & sales)....

Then came the Beckham marketing Vogue fashion campaign launch thing (Champers darling?) and some how they forgot about the men (well the heterosexual men anyway) and ruined it.

Clearly its not for girls, its for everyone.

Poor mans Range rover? Oh please, id rather die than have that fugly box, an Evoque is just so much better looking. Then again if i had a small pecensoredis i might need a big ugly box to make me feel like i have some masculinity left. Riding a.. few inches... higher would allow me to fantasise about being a lord or some such retarded pomp.

As for the survey this article is based on...

"The jury of Women's World Car of the Year, which comprises women motoring writers from 12 countries"

Wow i had no idea women only lived in 12 countries...

"The voting procedures were audited by international accountancy company"

Why? to try and add credibilty to a pathetic survey? dont make me laugh.

But i guess now the Boxster is officially not a girls car anymore, we need something else to bash? Just because some girls who like to write about cars decide on their personal favs, doesnt mean a car is a girls car, sure women will like it, but they also like cereal, does that mean if you eat cereal your eating girls food? hahaaaa!

Id happily drive a Evoque, im a man. therefore its a mans car right? it must be because ive had it "audited by an international accountancy company"

LOL

It's a car for mums who like to think they're Footballer's wives. Have fake tans, gossip on their lunch breaks and generally think they're better than they are. [/sweeping generalisation]

It's very much a girls car.

the public perception is that it's a girly looking car and girls are attracted to because the styling appeals to them or because of some kind of social trend or whatever.

it is what it is imo.

We discussed this yesterday as a bloke drove into the gym car park in one. Nice looking car I said, yeah but I wonder what his wife is driving today? Came the reply.

I really like them especially the 5 door but it does have the whiff of a womans car about it. (I'll set them up you knock em down)

Ha. Says you! wink

I think the Evoque is for people who want to own an RR but find the Sport or the proper RR too big. It's for people who'd otherwise buy X5s or Q7s or whatever, people who want an RR but don't ever want to go offroad. (I know it can go offroad, I just think the people who'd buy it probably wouldn't!) I don't think it's aimed specifically at women, but I can see why women would prefer it.

Not me, though. I spent a while hovering around LR showrooms earlier this year while I was looking for a new car, and I ruled out the Evoque as soon as I saw it. Mostly because it wasn't big enough for what I wanted it for. If I'd wanted a "small" offroader, I'd have bought a Volvo or something. But I also ruled it out because I didn't like its looks, particularly at the rear. I didn't rule it out because I have a pathological hatred of girlie cars.
lol guaranteed to find all the exceptions to the rule on here tongue out

I wonder how many of the Evoque-is-for-girls crowd would object to a similar statement of Mini-is-for-girls?

Both appear to be style over a surprising level of substance and competence. Both appear very popular. And of course, both are made in Britain.

It's a good car and it's British. There would be something wrong if people weren't stting all over it. It's the modern British way.

OK - I'll bite.
Some more 'girly' cars to join this stupid thread. I couldn't find any 911 pix to add but if I hang out the window for 20 mins a number of 911 ladies are sure to drive by on their way to the shops.

I believe the last cencus had the UK population 51% female, therefore Land Rover have gone for the bigger market, congratulations! Cave dwellers might not have noticed that the fastest growing number of new drivers in the UK is female but the motor brands have. Also the Evoque is selling in large numbers worldwide and there are more women in the world then men. In our household we have a Jaguar and a Hyundai I10. I don't feel less masculine when driving the I10, I feel richer in my wallet. My wife doesn't feel less of a woman when driving the Jaguar. We both like performance and economy so we have one car of each, most households buy cars not for the reason it's a girly car but for more practical reasons.
